I moved back to California in 2012 from Florida, where I was stationed in the US Navy. After I moved back home, I decided I needed to enroll in a school and get an education. At the time, Full Sail University had been suggested to me. I think that it was a common school name among the military, so I decided to go for it. While it was a decent education, and I received my bachelor’s degree, it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize this until it was too late. I was too invested in the program to pull out. To my surprise, that was also when I found out that it was not accredited, and I would not be able to transfer any of my credits and classes to another university. Besides my need to do something after leaving FL and the military, I also wanted to get an education to show my son how important one is.

I am a single mother. I am blessed with having my own mom by my side to help raise my son as well. I couldn’t do it without her. We recently decided to move to New England from California. This decision did not come likely and took at least two years to make it happen. California was too overcrowded and expensive, the education system was going downhill, bullying is at an all-time high, and we could not do it anymore. My son was included in this relentless bullying. He had been bullied since kindergarten. The teacher, students, principal, and even some neighbors were contributing. He has Autism and it seemed to make him an easy target for bullies. For his well-being, and ours, we decided to move.

The reason we chose New England was because of all the great things we researched about the education system. The public schools where we moved are top rated, and the universities are the same. I still want to set a good example for my son. This is when I decided I needed to get a better education, at a school that may offer better opportunities, and could lead to more open avenues. I truly believe that I can accomplish all that I need to if I can attend Harvard University Extension School, but I can’t do that without your help.

In order to get into the program, I need to take three courses. I’m sure you would have a few questions; such as: Why not financial aid? What about your military GI Bill? etc. The pre-admission courses are not covered by financial aid. In order to receive financial aid, I would have to be admitted into the BA/ALB program already. I need to pay for these courses out of pocket. Any income I receive now goes to my son and his needs. As far as the GI Bill, I have exhausted those resources for my schooling at Full Sail University. The money I am asking for would cover registration, courses, textbooks, and travel when a mandatory on-campus weekend lecture happens in February.

The HES program is the perfect for my schedule with a job and my son, but with also the best support througout the institution. I have researched how simple the process, how encouraging and positive the environment is, and how great the school, program, and people are. I would be forever grateful to any and all help offered/donated. No donation is too small. Please help me to complete this goal and be better example for my son.
