I'm aiming to volunteer overseas this summer with EDventure International. EDventure International is a program that lasts about three weeks. It's a unique experience that is difficult to land a spot in. There are many different locations to choose from - each with a different objectives, such as:
- Preserving marine ecosystems and saving endangered sea turtles in Costa Rica
- Creating a safe learning environment and teaching education to children in Cambodia
- Produce community development projects in South Africa to improve the development of a community through infrastructure, health, or educational projects.
- And many other projects...
While doing this, EDventure also provides Leadership courses to their participants while providing the opportunity to build up their inner strengths, and of course, with the EDventure International projects being abroad, these participants get to learn a lot about the Culture that they are located in, hands on!
My name's Lisa. I'm from Colorado, born and raised. The first time I ever left Colorado was two summers ago, when I went to Michigan with my family who adopted me just a few months beforehand. I had a rough start at life, I didn't have a healthy family, or the resources necessary for me to have a safe, healthy childhood. After experiencing some hardships that lead me to living in a teen homeless shelter for a couple of months, just a week after turning 18, I got adopted by the greatest family that I could have ever asked for. Before them, I had absolutely no faith in compassion, and the concept of "good people" was not a reality in my world. Because of their faith in me, and the love that they have shown me - I went from a two-time high school drop out to a high school graduate and now I'm pursuing my dream in International Social Work. I'm currently a student at Colorado Mesa University, with a Pre-Social work major (until I can apply for my major at the beginning of my Junior year), and when I'm done with that, I have dreams of going to graduate school to pursue my Masters degree in International Social work. Because my new family empowered me, gave me hope, and genuinely love and care for me, my entire life is dedicated to doing the same for others.
After learning about the EDventure program and being completely inspired to not only apply to the program, but dedicate every spare amount of free time that I have to insure that it would be possible for me to be accepted into the program, I got interviewed and accepted! This summer I have the opportunity to travel to Cambodia and not only help educate the children of Siem Reap, but help develop ways to create a clean water sources, and help local farmers with agriculture projects.I'm saving every single spare penny for this opportunity, but I am in desparate need of some help.
The program cost is $3,300
I am looking to raise funds for the program cost only. However, every little bit helps! Any amount over the $3,300 mark will go towards my airfare, and a little spending money to help support the local economy while I am there. I know times are tough in this economy, and it is hard to give a lot, which is why anything will help! Even if it is only 5 dollars, or even a dollar, I would be forever grateful for your help. This trip is my entire world right now, and I'm extremely grateful for any amount of help to achieve this dream.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this.
If you cannot donate, I ask that you please share this on any social media site.
I am appreciative of any and all help. It really means the world to me.
