Help Me Get My Master’s Degree

Hello everyone! My name is Farah and I'm a 22-year-old Egyptian writer and aspiring screenwriter, currently in the final stages of finishing my Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication. I have been accepted to study Film Production at the University of Lincoln in England on a conditional offer (only because my final certificate isn’t out yet, but I do meet the criteria), however, amidst the latest inflation and the high exchange rate, it’s been hard for me to gather the tuition funds, even while working several jobs and getting a £5K scholarship.

I have been passionate about film since I was 14, and I’ve been saving money and researching for master's degrees for almost 4 years now. I’ve cultivated this passion in many ways including writing about film and TV for several platforms, including Screen Speck, Film Cred, and my own. Additionally, I got to work on a short film during extracurricular activities as an assistant director and cinematographer, which has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life and it only fueled my passion further. My career objective is to become a screenwriter and venture into directing later on. Essentially, to me, it just boils down to wanting to listen to and tell stories of new, fresh, and underrepresented voices. Growing up as an Arab Muslim woman, it was evident that we are unrepresented behind and in front of the camera and it was disheartening to witness, that’s why one of my biggest goals is to be able to bring our stories to life in the future and I do believe that getting this degree will help me do that.

One of the problems that I face is the lack of opportunities and resources I have access to. That’s why one of my most treasured memories was of attending my first and only premiere which was for the Oscar-nominated Capernaum. I booked a ticket to a screening that the director, Nadine Labaki, was attending, knowing I had two midterms the following day (I passed both with As surprisingly). It was the best day of my life as an aspiring filmmaker, it was my first brush with the industry and the first time I got to meet a role model of mine. I got told several times that day that I looked like I was on cloud nine.
