My name is Stefania Penzes. I'm 28, I live in Budapest, Hungary. I started singing when I was 16. Since I was 16, I wanted to apply to Berklee College of Music, but I didn't believe in myself; I thought I wouldn't be accepted and that I probably wouldn't be able to afford it either.
12 years later I met one of my favourite bands and we talked about Berklee. Then I thought "ok, I'll take my chances, this is my big dream after all". And so I did.
And to my biggest surprise, I was accepted!
So now I'm in big trouble, because I almost got what I most wanted, but not fully. I won't be able to afford Berklee without help. And even though I hate asking for help, now I need it - a lot of it.
Please help me fulfill my dream.
I promise I will use it well:)
My plan is to collect one year's tuition fee and living costs for now. I would like to finish the college of course, but I need to start somewhere. One year would also make me extremely happy.
Some information on my musical journey:
I started singing at the age of 16, in a jazz fusion band in my hometown. The band was active for five years, until the members moved away to different countries.
Then I moved to the capital (Budapest), tried to study things that my family wanted me to study. I tried to convince myself for years to have a more "useful" profession. But I couldn't.
In 2014 we formed a duo called "Uknow duo" with a guitarist friend, we have been active ever since. We started having gigs at bars and restaurants, but later we started taking part in bigger events. We were invited to be the part of a contemporary theatre play by the "Ladder Art Company" called "Awakening", as creative contributors; we were asked to take part in events of literature with a well-known Hungarian writer Gergely Legradi - which later became an event series since it was really successful. We were also invited to take part in a famous event series with well-known actors and celebrities of the country. Our duo gets invitations to festivals each year from all over the country.
At Berklee, I would like to learn how to professionally build a musical career, produce music and create my own projects.
A little more about me:
My hobby is drawing. I have already taken part in a national exhibition in Budapest and planning to make my own exhibition.
Right now, to make money I work at customer service, part-time. I'm a part timer because I didn't want to miss any opportunities with the band.
My favourite singers are Nina Simone and Concha Buika - but I'm so in love with many others. My favourite genres to sing are jazz fusion, latin, and some melancholic pop music.
