I started my company a couple months ago - Swift Logistics, Inc. I am a third-party logistics provider in the transportation and trucking industry. I also provide dispatch services to truck drivers. There were a lot of start-up costs and now I am finding it hard to grow my business.
I have seeked out various ways to network and grow my business and one idea that I really like is becoming women-owned business certified by the Women's Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA) of Houston. The WBEA's process to become certified is lengthy and not just anyone can do it - which adds to the novelty of being certified. Becoming certified and a part of the WBEA will allow me to attend networking events at a reduced cost, will increase my opportunity to work with other women-owned businesses, will increase my opportunity to gain contracts from the city of Houston, and most of all it will allow me to take pride in something I believe in. Check out their website at www.wbea-texas.org for more info.
To expand on taking pride in something I believe in, I am a Licensed Master of Social Work and I have a passion for working with women. Most of my experience as a Social Worker has been with women and helping them in their specific struggles - economic, mental, emotional, physical, etc. Being certified would allow me to be a positive influence in the long run for other women.
