Hello, my name is Juan Martin Arienti and I'm 18 years old. I was born in Argentina but I have lived most of my life in Uruguay. Since I was very young I have always wanted to move to the first world in the pursuit of a better life, where opportunities abound and I would be able to start my desired studies. Music production is not available in many univerities where I live and the quality isn´t as good as it is in European Universities. It's also hard to find a job in any related music-related field here because there isn´t much support in the area.
I was recently accepted in the Institute of contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) in London, England to study a BA in Creative Music Production. Despite that being great news, there are still many obstacles to overcome. The costs are way higher for being non-EU and in South America it’s a lot harder to raise money as here salaries are lower and living costs higher. I come from a very hard-working family with little resources. We are a small family, I live with my mother and younger brother. My father, who had always supported me and would help me raise the money, unexpectedly passed away making it a lot harder to reach the course fees.
In order to be granted the visa I have to pay the first year in advance which are 9700 £ (2200 £ more expensive for being non-EU) and I also need to have an account with another 11385 £ to prove I can support myself (1265 £ per month up to 9 months). An amount that’s way too much despite all the efforts me and my family have been doing to save money in the past years. The visa I would be granted doesn't even allow me to work as it is a private organisation where I'll study. I will also have to pay for the plane ticket, rent and other maintenance costs. Despite my best efforts to find a scholarship or any financial help I have found nothing available to South American students.
I was nine years old when I got my first guitar as a birthday present and I haven’t stopped playing since. It was after attending a music festival in 2015 that I decided I wanted to devote my life to music. The adrenaline, the fans, the huge stage and the loud sound were all things that made me realise that was the type of work I want to do. As I grew up I worked in many areas in the music industry, such as being a musician, live sound technician, recording engineering and songwriter. Doing these things made me realise that if I want to make a successful career of it I have to go where art is truly appreciated, where musicians, concerts and opportunities abound. I can’t see myself doing anything else other than music as nothing gives me goosebumps the way music does. I think it is time for me to take things to another level and have a stronger and formal education in the industry. By producing, I can be a part of the creative process and contribute to music in every aspect of it. Song writing, performing, recording, mixing and live sound are all areas I am extremely passionate about.
I need your help to pursue my dream and I would really appreciate any help you can give me. I’ll be forever grateful!
