I was raised in Syria in an Arabic-Russian bilingual family and moved to Russia in 2002, but regulalry came back to visit my family and friends until the war started in 2011. It has been a permanent pain since then to see footage and pictures of all that bloodshed and destruction. I wish I could bring back the time of peace and safety to my country but alas... I miss it as it used to be - safe, calm, friendly to everyone... The only thing I can do is try recollect and share what was my country like in the time of peace, describe the things that have been gone now, probably foverer, and the things that could have led to the present madness.
I have an idea of a book on my mind to put together my childhood and teenage memories, history of my family, and many real-life situations with a lot of details I remember about the way of life back then, with all it positive and negative sides. How we lived in our home on the Mediterranean coast... My school days... What was our city like back then, the old streets, little shops and kafes... It really feels like an obligation to reconstruct that lost world and put it on paper to keep the memory for myself and others who might feel the same or simply be interested.
The notes to make the book already exist on my PC and partially in my head, but I am determined to put them into a united logical text and get it published. However, unfortunately, it is nearly impossible nowawadys to publish anything without initial investment... Besides, I would very much like to have it translated into English some day so that more people can read it. So, therefore, I am asking for help. What can I offer for reward? If the book does get published in English, you'll get a copy. If it doesn't, I am free to answer any your questions about the before-the-war Syria, help you with any research on that matter, etc.
A necessary disclaimer: I have not, do not, or will not ever support any side of the conflict, and my one and only desire is for Syria to start living in peace again, no matter under which rule. Hopefully, my book can contribute to that, if it's any success.
Here are some pictures of Syria from my personal files that can be used for the book. I have more of them.
And thank you in advance!
