I have just completed my Master's in International Development Practice most recently here in the UK. Development work consists of the political, economic, social transformation in nations done through civic society interaction, policy pressure, and community empowerment, to name a few. What I have always remained passionate about and even more so returning to India after years of living abroad as an empowered individual, was to fight for the voice of women, especially socially and economically.
I got the opportunity to visit Kenya for a few months and conduct a qualitative research for my Master's, coming across some wonderful communities of strong yet vulnerable women. Hearing heartbreaking stories of forced marriages at the mere age of 9, patriarchal pressures for girls to drop out of school, facing domestic abuse, or even a lack of motivation and family support pushing young girls to think about suicide...
So far, I feel like the work I did there remains unfinished and I would very much like to go back! This is why I ask for your help. I am raising money to be able to return to Kenya to delve into women social empowerment through local NGOs. But in order for me to survive living and working on my own, I need financial support. Development organisations pay very little and it is not enough currently for me to survive on my own- managing rent, local travel, food, and work visas. The money raised will be used towards such expenses so that I can pursue working with development organisations, even on a voluntary basis if needed. I am hoping to survive at least for six months traveling around Kenya and working across communities!
I would ideally like to arrange travel and begin work by May of this year which gives me approximately three months to prepare. Your support would mean the world to be able to pursue such work, bringing me one step closer to make a difference in our world. I only hope to use my learning to apply to my own country and expand eventually. I'd also be very grateful if you could share this campaign with your close ones and spread the word. Here's a glimpse into Kenya, an amazing culture that I yearn to connect with again and help in any way I can...https://www.instagram.com/thatglobaldesi/ (YouTube Channel- ThatGlobalDesi)
