My name is Kandan, and I am a retired Malaysian Air Force officer. I have a wife who has Type 1 Diabetes, and 2 children, one of who is mentally disabled. I am the sole earner of the family. My wife is unable to work because of her unstable condition and my youngest son, diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome when he was 2 years old. Now, he is 21 years old and my eldest daughter is 24 years old. I served in the Malaysian Air Force for 13 years since 1990 and took an early retirement to start my own food delivery business. Due to my early retirement, I was not eligible for pension and I used the money given for my retirement into my business.

I started my own food delivery business. It went well for a few years until a big flood caused me major losses that I couldn't recover from. After trying and failing to revive my business, I chose to become a taxi driver since 2007. Life was going well and I was able to provide more than enough for my family. This went on for a few more years until disaster striked again. E-hailing applications became much more popular among people compared to taxis. So my income began to dwindle down until I was barely making ends meet.

Because of this, I became a Grab car driver (e-hailing service) because of its popularity among people and in the believe that I could be earning like I used to. I don't have my own car, so I rented a car for the job. Unfortunately, having to depend on driving Grab as a sole income was not such a good idea. I had to pay the house rent, monthly rental pay for the car, settle debts lingering from my business days and also support my eldest who was then studying at the university. I was also living in one of the urban areas in the state of Selangor, where the cost of living is much higher. At this moment, I made a decision to quit the job and go back to my hometown in early 2018 in a rural area of the Perak state to make a living.

I brought my family and we stayed at my late mother's house which was long abandoned but habitable. Since it is a rural area, the cost of living is cheaper compared to my previous home but I was still struggling to make ends meet because I could not get a stable job. Since I am getting older, there are not many jobs that is applicable for me. So now, I am just doing odd jobs every single day to feed my family. As the breadwinner of the family, I feel that it is my responsibility to provide more for my family.

Now, if I have my own car, I would like to drive again. I have more than 10 years of experience from driving taxis, so this job is something that I am good at and can help me earn a steady income. There is a high demand for transportation services and e-hailing at the nearby town around my house, thus I feel confident I could drive again. With my own car, I could evade having to pay rental fees for the car and use all the income from it for my family. Before this, it all came to an end due to the high rental fees that I had to pay for the car. If any kind souls would be so generous to help me drive again, I would be eternally grateful to you for helping me support my family.
