Hi!
My name is Marcelo, i'm a 22 years old electrical engineering student from the city of Iquique, located in Chile.
Like many of us, i had big plans for this year, but everything had to be delayed indefinitely thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak.

I wanted to start a small business, centered on 3D printing technology, since my city is not really knowledgeable of this technology. My vision was to make this a much more widespread concept, as well as making it more accessible for hobbyists, engineers and designers.

As i mentioned before, due to this pandemic outbreak, i wasn't able to apply for goverment funds aimed for small businesses, therefore, i couldn't start building this small project i had been planning for a while. And now, 3D printing has become a great asset for the battle against the current pandemic.
A company in my country has developed a copper-based antibacterial plastic filament, ideal for objects that require being in a sterile condition (Check Copper3D's website https://copper3d.com/). With this, they have also released license-free blueprints for air filters and masks (https://copper3d.com/hackthepandemic/).
Since they're located in Santiago de Chile, and i am located way north, separated by almost 2000km of road, it is a good idea for me to become a supplier of 3D printed antibacterial hardware, in order to reduce shipping times as much as possible and increase availability.

This is a great way to start my business, and at the same time, helping a good cause, being this the COVID-19 battle.

My plan is to distribute these masks as inexpensive as possible, they can become free if they must be. While also distributing many other 3D printed tools and gadgets that require being antibacterial, like surgical and medical equipment, among other things.

The idea is to get the following things:

  • 2 or 3 3D printers, so i can cope with possible large demands. The good thing is that some enthusiast-level devices can be found rather inexpensive.
  • A capable UPS system. This due to my area being prone to electricity shortages, since i'll be working from home.
  • The remaining income from this campaign will be directed to gather the antibacterial plastic filament in respectable quantities, in order for me to have a somewhat steady supply of said material.
  • Miscellaneous hardware focused on the manufacturing of the equipment

For all this, USD$3000 should be more than enough.

With this, not only i will be able to make my plans come together, but in the process, i will help a lot of people, and that's the most important thing here. I alway wanted to help my community somehow, and this is a great way to use my ideas.

Help me help the people of my city, via donating or sharing, for i will be forever grateful.
