My name is Anupam and I work for homeless animals in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India along with a handful of individuals who individually do a lot more for animals than most so called 'Animal Welfare NGOs' combined.
We feed more than 100 dogs in and around our localities, carry out 10-15 birth control operations every month depending upon our meager budgets along with countless cases of 'Hit & Run' Injuries, Maggot wounds, mange, abuse, abandoned pets, adoptions amongst others. We also manage a small 'government owned' Shelter that houses our paralyzed dogs because they have nowhere else to go. No homeless animal case reported to us gets unattended for want of time and resources.
UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE NOT GETTING ANYWHERE
As anyone who has worked for animals knows, fighting for homeless animals is a lost cause unless backed by a solid Animal Birth Control Program that reduces their population from the other end. Sadly for us, no such thing as a 'government-sponsored' ABC program exists in our state. The small amount of ABC operations carried out by people in their individual capacities doesn't make a dent as more puppies get added every year and the net population grows. By Latest estimates, there are more than 1,50,000 Stray Dogs in Lucknow. Take this with a pinch of salt as these are provided by the local municipal corporation.
WHAT DO WE NEED?
We have a choice here. To fight the government, local 'Animal Welfare Mafia', the never-ending red-tape and corruption in the hope that they would carry out the ABC mandate issued by the courts in India, or, we take matters in our own hands.
This is where we need YOUR HELP.
We need enough funds to buy land for an ABC center + Shelter with a 24 hour emergency and ambulance service that doubles up as rescue & pickup for the surgeries. We need enough resources to pay for full time Veterinary Staff and caretakers. Most importantly we need to create an example that puts the state leadership and the corrupt officials to shame and gets them to do their jobs.
The goal for us is simple. To sterilize all homeless dogs in our city and provide all possible medical assistance whenever and wherever needed on an on-going basis. No exceptions.
