Having enrolled for a four-year B.A in digital arts in 2018, my zeal has always been being part of the representation of African narratives in the digital ecosphere. Regardless of the financial challenges I face as a self-funded student, my desire still stands, as I pursue to use the skill sets that I gain in representing African narratives correctly and increase their accessibility. However, the absence of funds, compounded by the economic decay in Zimbabwe, and exacerbated by the global COVID-19 pandemic has been a hinderance in the achievement of this dream, as evident in my historic debt.
With the extended lockdowns in 2020, the offer for funding I had secured from a funder here in South Africa was annulled, as the company has since been affected by the economic meltdown. My efforts in soliciting for funds to address my historic debt have included the application of the Wits University 2021 Council hardship fund which has not come through yet. I have approached the department of Digital Arts to help with sessional employment, so that the proceeds can go to my student account and reduce the historical debt. The department is still awaiting the approval of its budget before giving me a reply.
It has not been easy to get bursaries as an international student since most funding caters for South African citizens only. I have on numerous occasions prayed the fees office, that I get fees clearance so that I can register for my Honors studies on time, as I continue to look for more funds, and hopefully get to a position to help other students like me. It is my sincere hope that I will finish the payments before the end of the year and I will find myself in a better situation in future years, so that my certificate and degree will be awarded to me.
If you prefer to donate to my student account below are the details. I will manually keep everyone updated on the amount raised here.
