My name is Jackson Kaaya and I was born and raised in Tanzania, which is in East Africa. I am
a high school graduate of Braeburn International School Arusha where I was awarded a
scholarship that allowed me to study in a prestigious and competitive international school.
Growing up I have always tried to push myself out of my comfort zone to try something big with
in my interest, from playing my violin, designing and making a wooden toy car to taking part in a
mechanics project of making a buggy.
My love and passion of machines has always motivated me to spend most of my time trying to
understand both mathematically and physically how different existing mechanisms actually
function but the big question in my mind was why can't we develop and apply this knowledge in
my country? Ever since then I have been interested in studying different subjects and
incorporating knowledge about creativity and mechanisms of machines. I wish to invest in my
education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Structure, Manufacturing and
Automation Engineering in China to help me make a change in my local community.
In order to fund my studies in Engineering I decided to not only raise money through fundraising
but to also work as a teaching assistant at Braeburn International School Arusha. I did this as
part of a gap year and helped students with learning difficulties in subjects such as
mathematics, music and science. Additionally, this has offered me a great amount of experience
in handling responsibilities and working hard as an individual and as part of a team. I
now feel that I have experience as a professional employee and this will benefit me in my further
studies.
Achieving my goal of studying engineering in China is a difficult one but I am prepared to work
hard and make this possible. I have been offered a university place to study engineering in China
and this is an excellent opportunity for me. The university has offered me some financial
assistance, as they have been so impressed with the work I have done in my time as a teaching
assistant at Braeburn but also due to my impressive academic studies. However, to make this
dream possible I still need financial support towards the cost of tuition and living costs.
I appeal to all the people who are able to support me in my journey and dream of studying
engineering in China to contribute what you can to make this dream a realization. In the future, I
hope to use your generous support to give back to my local community.
