I am a 35-year-old wife and mother to an 8-year-old son. I have been gradually losing my vision since birth due to a condition that deteriorates my retinas. I am trying to raise money for a device called the Freedom Scientific Topaz XL HD CCTV, a device which enlarges anything that I put under it and projects it onto a screen so that I can see it better.
This device would assist me in my daily life in many ways. Some of these include:
- Reading printed materials such as mail.
- Checking my son's homework and helping him understand it better.
- Viewing photos that I cannot see with the naked eye.
- Filling out applications and other paper forms.
- Playing visual games on my iPhone.
Assistive Technology such as the Topaz does tend to be a bit expensive and out of the budget of many people, hence the reason for this fundraiser. However, acquiring this device would significantly enhance my life and restore my ability to participate in some activities that my current visual condition limits. The current price is £2,199, or approximately $2700. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated and will be put directly into getting the Topaz once the goal is reached. This fundraiser does not cover the full cost of the Topaz, but my husband and I will be able to cover the shortfall.
