Maya is a tabby cat who lives with her American and Vietnamese humans Josh and Anna in Ho Chi Minh City. She had just moved into her first apartment last week and was not used to being off the ground when she was let out to explore the balcony on the 6th floor.
Maya slipped sometime in the very early morning and plummeted to the pavement below. The fall caused compound fractures of both oh her hind legs and nearly caused her liver to fatally malfunction. Maya laid on the pavement below for nearly 9 hours in excruciating pain before being discovered by her guardians. A coffee seller and the building security guard below had kept a neighboring security guard from killing Maya and taking her home as food.
Maya entered Dr. Nghia's veterinary clinic on August 26th. The recovery is still uncertain, but amazingly, it seems she will survive. Her liver is becoming normal, and her legs will undergo surgery this week. Maya has always been a graceful and incredibly athletic cat. We hope she will simply be able to walk again without pain.
Below is an xray of her double compound fracture. It's exceptional that Maya survived, and Dr Nghia hopes that after surgery and about 6 months of recovery, she'll be able to walk again.
If you are in Ho Chi Minh City and prefer to donate in cash, Maya is being treated by the universally-loved Dr. Nghia at Saigon Pet Clinic in Thao Dien, located a quick left off Quoc Huong at number 31 Duong So 41.
