Help Matvii Join Minerva Schools Class of 2025

Hi,

My name is Matvii Kotolyk. I am a 17-year-old student from Odesa, Ukraine. I am closer than ever to achieving my dream of studying in the United States, but I need your help to start.

THE UNIVERSITY

This year I got accepted at the most selective university in the United States, Minerva Schools at KGI, which has an acceptance rate of just 1.2%. It is based in San Francisco, CA and was founded in 2012 as Minerva Project. The university allows the students to live in 7 different cities throughout the 4 years: San Francisco, Taipei, Seoul, Hyderabad, Berlin, Buenos Aires, and London. Its curriculum is highly rigorous and prepares the students for the challenges of our generation.

PROBLEM WITH FINANCES

I was very fortunate to receive a 94% scholarship, which is USD 31.000 out of the total cost of USD 32.950. This leaves me with almost USD 2.000 to pay, and this amount does not include travel expenses, visa fees, and insurance costs.

Ukraine has been involved in an unfair war with Russia since 2014. Right now Ukraine has one of the lowest numbers of vaccines in the world, which makes it much more difficult for my family to go to work safely and have a steady income. My father is the only person in my household who brings income because my mother is currently out of job and is raising my 3-year-old sister. All of these circumstances would make it an unbearable burden for my family and me to pay the sum mentioned above.

ABOUT ME

My whole life I have been dedicating a lot of time to studying and reading, as I believed it will help improve my family's financial situation and have a successful future. I always stayed on top of my class and was involved in extracurricular activities, such as chess, dancing, football, and dancing. In 2018, I achieved 4th place among Europeans in the Polish Language Olympiad, and in 2019, I became the winner. I also have been an active member of the European Youth Parliament for 3 years, and have attended 15 sessions (most of them as part of the core organising team). In 2019, I became the finalist of the US State Department-sponsored FLEX program and went to the US for a year with all expenses covered. During my time there, I played on the high school's basketball team and was a member of the local robotics club. When I have free time, I enjoy reading, playing the piano, and spending time outside, running or cycling.
