Help Marthie Recover

Marthie urgently needs post stroke rehabilitation

Marthie Rodrigues, a 46 year old single parent, suffered a massive stroke on 14 May 2017. This was brought on by dural venous sinus thrombosis, which has left her paralysed from the neck down.

The stroke was preceded by ESS cancer surgery on 8 February 2017, with subsequent complications, resulting in her being hospitalised until 30 April 2017.

Even though Marthie survived the stroke against all odds, she was sent home on 8 June 2017, as we are not in a position to afford rehabilitation. With the assistance of a caregiver and a physiotherapist she has made some progress but has to deal with the following:

• Paralyses - with movement limited to the neck and hands
  
• Depression
• Being confined to a hospital bed
• Increased fluid pressure inside the skull
• Pressure on nerves
• Insufficient funding to cover the mounting bills and obtain the necessary treatment, not to mention the full body wheelchair she is in need of.

Marthie, the sole breadwinner, has been unable to work since February 2017 and has no medical aid nor insurance. Assistance is needed for monthly expenses, for rehab as well as her daily needs.
