The motorcycling community in Singapore would like to take this opportunity in this blessed holy Muslim month of Ramadhan to donate a sum of 80,000.00 SGD to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund via spotlighted local rider Mark Yeo as requested by his best friend, a popular blogger in Singapore who must not be named.

Brief overview of the beneficiary (information from their website):
The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund was started in 2000 as a community project initiated by The Straits Times to provide pocket money to children from low-income families to help them through school. The children can use this money for school-related expenses, such as buying a meal during recess, paying for transport or using it to meet other schooling needs. The financial help also eases the burden of the many parents who are already struggling to feed their families on their meagre incomes.

The Fund supports more than 10,000 children and youth a year. Since the project started in 2000, the Fund has disbursed more than $60m and helped over 160,000 cases of children and youth in providing them with monthly school pocket money.

STSPMF was established as a Trust on 20 October 2010 with a Board of Trustees and was granted charity status on 14 November 2011 with Institution of A Public Character (IPC) status effective from 1 January 2012.

The funds works with the Ministry of Education, mainstream and special needs schools, youth centres, family service centres and children's homes in disbursing the funds to students from low-income families.

Having traveled to various countries via overland backpacking / motorcycling, I have come to the grim realisation that the lack of basic education not only devastatingly impacts the individual child but also an entire community for generations.
Here in Singapore, whilst a number of us are fortunate to be blessed with a decent income, there are families out there struggling financially to support sending their children to school.
Basic education should not be a choice. Finances should not be a mitigating factor. Help these children to start on an equal ground.

For those of us who are fortunate, let us lend a helping hand to these children, in conjuction with this mo. Break the cycle.

Thank you blogger for highlighting this beneficiary to us via your friend Mark Yeow.
