Life-saving Chemotherapy & Lung Treatment for Marian

Hi! My name is Marian, 22 years old from the Province of Batangas. In August 2019, after several blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy, we found out that I have Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL). This rare subtype of leukemia (blood cancer) is very aggressive and without immediate treatment it is fatal within 3 or 4 months. The good news was that there is a possible treatment for it; the bad news was this treatment costs a lot of money.

I remember almost giving up after knowing how much the chemo would cost. But with a bunch of selfless people's moral support, financial help and blood donations, I was able to complete my first induction chemo treatment in UST Hospital in Manila. Before September ended, after 6 very heavy and scary hospital weeks with lots of complications, I woke up and learned that my blood work (finally) came out normal: all initial leukemia cells were gone.

But unfortunately, it is far from over yet: I still need to complete 2 or 3 more cycles of chemo (each with one full month hospitalization...) to prevent the leukemia from coming back quickly and relapsing. And to make it worse: I need urgent lung surgery for a -potentially fatal- fungus infection. Me and my family are trying everything we can, but we just don't have the money for all the treatments.

The lung surgery is most important first and very urgent. We recently found out that I have Pulmonary Aspergilloma that formed during the first chemo period, when immune system was down to zero and fungus infection penetrated my lungs. This requires an urgent surgical treatment, costing PHP200, 000 to PHP300, 000 (or about 3, 900 USD to 5, 800 USD) to remove a dangerous fungus ball. There is no time to lose, because we also need to start the consolidation chemo treatment that is essential to keep the leukemia from relapsing.

• Our first goal is to raise enough funds for the lung surgery since I must undergo this surgery as soon as possible—while my immune system is not weak.
• Our next goal is to raise sufficient funds for my next chemo treatments and other medical bills (hospital bed nights, antibiotics, pain killers, blood tests, transfusions, etc).

Another personal goal of mine is to overcome all of this, so that I get another chance to achieve the goals I had in life before all of this happened.

Please help us achieve these goals. Please help me survive this horrible disease. I want to live, I want to grow old, I want to pay it forward and help other people too later...
