22 June 2021

After receiving treatment for a month in the intensive care unit of the Metro Antipolo Hospital and Medical Center due to stroke and pneumonia, our Mama Elvira was finally transferred to the Lung Center of the Philippines on 31 May 2021. She was discharged from the Metro Antipolo Hospital by means of a promissory note because we can no longer afford to pay her remaining bill amounting to Php 375,000 (the overall bill is around Php 1M). We are currently processing applications for government medical assistance and exploring other means to help cover the balance in the first hospital.

(You can read Mama Elvira's battle against pneumonia and stroke on the previous campaign updates or click here.)

On her first week in the Lung Center of the Philippines, she had a tracheostomy operation which created a tube insertion in the neck to help her breathe better. Liquid from her lungs also accumulated and has been treated. She also needed a blood transfusion due to low hemoglobin level. A week ago, we finally learned from the biopsy and latest CT scan results the main reason for her difficulties in overall recovery and it is a diagnosis our family did not expect - Mama Elvira has pulmonary adenocarcinoma or Lung Cancer, Stage 4.

Because of her age and condition, aggressive treatments such as chemo and radiation are no longer advisable. Our family decided to go for palliative treatment which focuses on improving the quality of life for patients with terminal or serious illnesses. We intend to bring her home as soon as possible where we can continue her palliative care and spend quality time with her.

Unfortunately, she cannot be discharged from the hospital unless we settle our obligation amounting to around Php 400,000 as of June 21. On top of the growing hospital charges, we also spend around Php 5,000 - Php 10,000 daily for her potent medications and supplies.

Our combined family funds have already been depleted with our over-a-month-long hospital ordeal. And as much as we want to give the best care for our Mama Elvira, we can no longer sustain the daily medical expenses and we are running out of means to source the funds.

OUR ASK

Once more, we are humbly knocking on your hearts to help Mama Elvira and our family in this trying time. Your financial support will help us bring Mama Elvira home as she continues palliative care at home with her family.

Thank you. Our family will never forget your kindness. We hope to repay you in other ways when we get back on our feet.

God bless and stay safe!
