Bullied

Maddison is an amazing young lady who has overcome so much in just 3 short years. She was a victim of not only peer to peer bullying but also a victim of bullying by a government bureaucracy - the traditional public education system. You see Maddison struggles with dyslexia and the same bureaucratic regulations that help make sure that failing students receive needed assistance denied Maddison that same assistance because she struggled but never failed.

Empowered

She left the traditional public school system going into 7th grade only reading on a 2nd grade level and had been so bullied and beaten down that she wouldn't even raise her hand in class and rarely smiled.

Excelling

After 3 years in a new charter school environment (free from the binding regulations that required a student to fail before receiving additional assistance) she is beyond excelling. Here are a few of her accomplishments and I'll share more later: 1 full grade ahead of her former classmates (in honor classes none the less), the 1st Student Government President of Cherokee Charter Academy, and the youngest student appointed to the State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Board (out of over 800 applicants).

Overcoming

She has the potential to do so much more but she needs your help to make it possible. Maddison's Charter High School had to close its doors due to a shortage in funding for a newbuilding. This change devastated her and the thoughts of going back into a school system that is currently unable to give her the style of education that she needs to excel has left us to seek other options.

Continuing...with you

Thanks to some wonderful friends and contacts that stepped in to make sure she didn't fall through the cracks again she has the solution that is a perfect fit in a local private school that will be able to meet her needs and allow her to continue to excel and inspire those around her.  This does come with a much higher price tag than the free public charter school but fortunately she has received scholarships that will cover all but $4,500. Please consider donating to help Maddison continue her education that will allow her to soar to levels we could have only dreamed were possible before.  At 15 years old she is already an inspiration for students and adults alike - this is only a glimpse of what she has in store for the world.

Its NOT a Disability

Update posted by Addie Price at 02:45 pm

I don't believe there are learning disabilities. There are only different ways of learning and processing. The perspective becomes distorted when schools try to make square pegs fit round holes. Henry Ford once said that you can have any color of Model T as long as it is black -. . . . .
