Liz was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2019, the tumour has now grown the size of an orange and caused a life threatening haemorrhage a few weeks ago in December. Thankfully, the tumour is still local and has not spread, so she is receiving care urgently to prevent metastasis and reduce the tumour, at Hufeland Clinic in Germany. The goal treatment time is six weeks, the family has covered three weeks’ treatment and since we want to give her the optimal time for treatment and recovery we are making this fundraiser to ask for help to cover the remaining three weeks.
Liz was diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer in early 2019. The standard treatment options offered are radiotherapy and surgery. Considering the invasive and damaging nature of these methods, it was Liz’ strong wish that she did not want to take this road. She began to do her own research to try to find an alternative way, and followed a natural regime based on diet and supplements.
She started to experience pain and bleeding from the tumour which has grown to the size of a small orange. In a life-threatening episode less than a month ago she was rushed to hospital with heavy haemorrhaging and had to have emergency cauterisation surgery and receive a blood transfusion. Recuperating at home and with the help of a friend searching for alternative treatment options abroad, she contacted the Hufeland clinic, and after a very positive discussion with the doctor, settled on the decision to go there as soon as possible.
——— Why Germany?
Germany is one of the leading countries in complementary alternative medicine use, which means there are a good number of clinics with qualified doctors offering these treatments alongside conventional care. It is generally more accepted, more widely offered and with better facilities, attracting people from over Europe to seek treatment there.
——— About the clinic
The clinic at which Liz is now being treated, Hufeland clinic, is a centre for complementary alternative medicine in Germany. Hufeland offers therapies such as immunotherapy, hyperthermia, ozone, and plant based medicines (thyme and mistletoe) together with conventional ones. The main concept in the treatments offered is to support and activate the body’s own immune system to fight disease, as well managing symptoms and treating the patient’s mental and emotional state.
--- Liz's treatment
Liz has a full and busy schedule of treatment starting at 7am and going throughout the day. Liz’s treatment plan includes a low dose of chemotherapy together with complementary natural therapies which boost the chemotherapy’s effectiveness to that of the full dosage but minimise the harmful side effects of chemotherapy. She is receiving relaxation therapy in additions and painkillers to help with the after effects of her surgery. There are lots of optionals like massage, painting, and psychotherapy sessions so even in 'free time' there is always something offered.
As every patient and their family knows, the stress of dealing with the diagnosis and emotional conflict has a hugely detrimental effect quite apart from the disease itself. Liz has had to deal with a lot of upheaval over the last year and other family health issues apart from her own which has made it difficult to concentrate on her wellbeing. Part of her struggle is to overcome the fear she experiences in being treated medically - even the least invasive treatments are very stressful to her psychologically. That’s why it’s especially important that she is in a supportive environment which a clinic like Hufeland can offer.

—— Aim of the treatment
The treatment priority is to stop the growth of the tumour, reduce its size and prevent metastasis. In the coming weeks it will be decided what the course of action will be and whether that will involve surgery or not.
The second aim is to deal with residual pain and weakness following the surgery, and to allow general recuperation.
As well as treating the cancer, she is receiving psychological support and pain management, so that her overall wellbeing improves.
——— Why we need your help
The family has put together all the money they can towards the treatment, and it covers 3-4 weeks. We hope with your help to increase that to the full 6 weeks as et optimal time recommended by the clinic.
