Please DONATE- Help my Daughter avoid surgery and get the Therapy she needs!
My name is Rita Parker and Lia my daughter was diagnosed with severe scoliosis and was told her only option was surgery. This surgery is very intrusive and painful. They place a rod and pin in her spine and do a spinal fusion. She would be in bed recovering for one month minimum after the surgery. As she grows, she will continue to need adittional surgery to adjust the rod to conform to her growing spine. This surgery is very painful and will limit her mobility for the rest of her life. The surgery does not get any correction in curvature, it only works to stop it from getting worse. As the spine continues to curve it creates other health issues.
After doing intensive research I found Spine Therapy that is working. It is non intrusive and they are getting corrections in curvatures even in severe cases like my daughters. Insurance does not cover this Therapy, only surgery. The Therapy is an intensive 1 week program 8 hours a day and is very hard work, but my daughter is willing to do the work. She will need to do this several times each year until she stops growing at about 18yrs of age. She has been through one session already last fall and we were able to get a 12 degree correction. She has equipment at home and does 20 minutes of less intensive therapy at home twice a day. She needs to go for another round of the 1 week intensive Therapy as she has had another growth spurt and the spine is seeing a larger gain in the curvature.
Her dad died two years ago and so I am a single mom with two kids and just don't have the funds to give her the continued Therapy she needs. The 1 week sessions of intensive therapy are $5000 and again insurance doesn't cover any of the cost.
Please help with any donation you can of even $5 or more. Every little bit helps. Any funds raised will go toward another immediate 1 week intensive Therapy and adittional weeks she will need in the coming year as she continues to grow.
Thank you for reading this and for caring about my child and the quality of their lives. She is not asking for a new bike, video game or things most kids want. She just wants to have a healthy painless spine to grow into and to feel normal.
