FILMMAKERS STUDIO – “WHERE THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST COME TO SHINE”

Filmmakers Studio  presents a collection of the world's finest independent films and believe it to be a essential part of seeking out new and provocative works for broadcast on our program. Though our shows consists mainly of films which have garnered recognition from the local independent community through both critical review we believe that a great film can come from anywhere and encourage submission of all types of film. While our primary interests are feature films and narratives which defy genre, we have great success promoting films which stretch boundaries and defy convention from shorts, documentaries, to music videos.

WHY SUPPORT FILMMAKERS STUDIO ?

  1. This program takes advantage of a talented group of filmmakers whose film work has mirrored that of a major Hollywood production.  With a wide television audience this program could help re-evaluate everyone’s perception of Independent Filmmaking today.  For most independent films advertised in theaters today were made from a major motion picture company.
  2. At this current time there is not a major TV network or program that preserves the quality and mastership of creative film expression that the Filmmakers Studio does in celebrating the fine art of independent filmmaking.
  3. The simplicity of presentation is what is behind this show’s success.  No field shooting is required for video packages are prepared beforehand by our guests to aid in our interviews.
  4. This series itself can provide an educational experience for those wanting to learn more about filmmaking and what goes into the filmmaking process in putting a film together.
  5. Advance planning will help aid promotion of our program.   Previews of upcoming shows will be taped and aired during our regularly scheduled broadcasts as well as during network commercials.
  6. The nature of this program will bring to light about a new crop of up and coming filmmakers who are otherwise ignored by film critics who prefer other Hollywood films.

Program Outcomes

  1. Provide a program that gives Filmmakers a stage in which to express their craft  in experimenting with various filmmaking styles to create exciting, informative, and insightful new films
  2. This series itself can provide an educational experience for those wanting to learn more about filmmaking and what goes into the filmmaking process in putting a film together.
  3. The nature of this program will bring to light about a new crop of up and coming Minnesota filmmakers

This program takes advantage of a talented group of  filmmakers  whose film work has mirrored that of a major Hollywood production to help re-evaluate everyone’s perception of Independent Filmmaking today.  For most independent films advertised in theaters today were made from a major motion picture company.   At this current time there is not a  major TV network program  that preserves the quality and mastership of creative film expression that the Filmmakers Studio does in celebrating  the fine art of independent filmmaking.  Learning to be a filmmaker is not done by the numbers but through trial and error.  It is done by learning the immersion into the creative process by learning the whys and hows, experience, feed back and correction.   This series itself can provide a educational experience for those wanting to learn more about filmmaking and what goes into the filmmaking process in putting a film together

Major Goal

The Filmmakers Studio, founded in 2009, whose sole mission is to showcase different styles of filmmaking to educate the audience’s perception of how films are created through coneeption, storyboard, scripwriting, production, and post-production work.

Independent Filmmaking has been a long lost art form overshadowed by the height of big studio films.   Marveled by its creativity ingenuity and its thoughtfulness to create masterful films with little to no budget they are only frequently seen  and praised at many film festivals and local showcase programs and seldom seen again.   The goal of our Filmmakers Studio project is to continue to build and  help educate an audience of filmviewers, and  filmmaking hopefuls  how  indie filmmakers today take advantage of  many of the  affordable filmmaking equipment and applications  made available to help further builds their skills and experience in the media arts and  for them to share their unique experiences and perspectives on film production.   For Independent Filmmakers are the voice of change and growth in filmmaking today for they help influence Hollywood Productions  to better cater their films to an ever changing and demanding film audiences worldwide.  In the end I want to see network televised show dedicated exclusively to independent filmmakers and I believe in raising funds to help build an audience to our show is the first step.

Community Component

By definition a independent film is a film financed outside of the studio system.  These films allow for more artistic imagination and origination rather than a tried and true formula seen in a typical Hollywood Action or Horror movie.  They are not viewed as a simple escape but allow the viewer into a world to experience emotions and reactions that are not made for entertainment value but as an observation of the human experience.  Many Hollywood films are catered to the 15 to 50 demographic of their favorite comic book heroes while independent films cater their films to real life stories or situations about activists, authors, musicians, and teachers who inspire.  Whereas Hollywood films offer a pure escape component, Independent films enrich our lives and our human potential based on the indomitable spirit of mankind.

The main market of Indie films is catered to a mature audience.  However these audiences have a lot of options.  They lead busy lives with family, jobs, and other obligations.  As a result they have many entertainment options today which

  1. Cable Tv
  2. Theater
  3. On Demand video
  4. Netflix.

If you consider the above then you most likely choose Netflix.  Everyone loves Netflix because it offers a great selection of movies from Hollywood to Indie film.  Unfortunately this evolution in entertainment offers a crushing blow to the indie film world.  While everyone is entertained, very little revenue is generated for artists to continue in their art.  Indie film has always been a form of expression for filmmakers to express themselves and it will always remain weaved into history forever.  However, it is the businessmen who bring these films to the market through their distribution channels which are slowly disappearing.  As a result these talented groups of artists remain undiscovered without any means of building up an audience and their audiences who would value their work and hard earned efforts move on to other produced works.  Sure , small audiences may find their published works on their website, Youtube, Facebook, or blogs  but with audiences far and few and productions costs so high few indie films will be made and the world will never be present to sing their praises.   That is why a group such as The Filmmakers Studio dedicated to the preservation and celebration of the indie film continue in its quest to seek funding to help build a global audience to once and for all give Indie Filmmakers their stage to become the next American Idol of Filmmaking.

Impact on the State and Creative Community

  1. Our programs offer insight as to how film projects are produced.  A lot of indie projects tell interesting stories of how they are produce with little to no budget but are fueled with creativity energy and passion telling such huge and beautiful stories filled with lush cinematography, editing, and sound.  In our programs you will learn how filmmakers with only very little experience come out of their first film making good films.  Contacts that will serve them well into the future as they progress into making bigger and better films as their filmmaking skills increase.
  2. Our viewers will learn how film projects are directed.   Our programs offer great insight into how directors overcome creative obstacles in working with their actors to produce wonderful screen performances.  These kinds of movies offer us a chance for us to see great actors we may never see again but stay in our hearts forever because of their great efforts of what they bring to the picture.
  3. Teaches public how film projects are distributed.    Indie films offer a challenge to any filmmaker like no other when they’re projects are projects finished because the issue that always comes out is what next.  In many of our programs we hear tales of how our guests overcame these obstacles in finding an audience that has become to many indie filmmakers next to impossible.
  4. Learn how films inspire.   We can learn the success and pitfalls of a illustrious career of a filmmakers rise to the top of their profession.  If you watch these independent films you will easily get inspired because they have a hidden message that if you have the equipment, ideas, vision, and a crew producing these projects can come easy without asking for big sums of financial funding.  As a result a beginner in filmmaking comes out of their first fimmaking experience develops a newfound skills and talents they never knew they had which leads to future success in the media business due to their appearance on our show.
  5. Re-ignite the Minnesota Film and other Indie Film Communities statewide.
