Campaign Story
Who We Are:
Rajana Threads is a Cambodian fashion brand. Based in San Francisco, Rajana Threads aim to promote traditional handwoven Khmer fabric and also help local artisans in Cambodia by employing them to handcraft our products. Through the building of our partnership with Khmer women-run sewing enterprises, weavers, and garment producers, we will be actively engaging in ethical practices of sourcing and production.
Handmade in Cambodia, each piece will have a story and is guaranteed to be a conversation starter. Rajana Threads hopes to bring you a true taste of Cambodian modern wear that is stylish and fashion forward! We will have full creative control over the design and fabric choices, bringing you customized styles utilizing Khmer textiles to its fullest. You will not find our designs anywhere else! They will truly be one of a kind pieces.
Our mission is simple: showcase the eclectic beauty of traditional Khmer fabric through contemporary fashion while supporting a collaborative of women artisans in Cambodia.
Khmer Textiles:
Weaving goes back to the ancient times and has sustained itself into the modern age. But due to war/conflicts and the huge imports of foreign silks and synthetic fabrics, it has disrupted the weaving communities within the last century. We have noticed more purchases of said silks and fabrics within the Cambodian American diaspora, with many not realizing the difference between imported/synthetic fabrics and handwoven Khmer fabrics. Some of the reasons why are due to imported foreign and synthetic fabrics are mass produced, readily available, and are considerably cheaper than fabrics handwoven in Cambodia. Because of this, Rajana Threads' intent is to raise awareness around various Khmer textiles, continue upholding its prominence, and making it globally accessible.
Our Goals:
With your help, your donations will go towards:
A trip to Cambodia to meet with our partners in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap regarding logistics and quality control A visit to a weaving village to learn about and document:
The weavers behind the loom, their stories and their process
The diverse textiles and fabric sourcing
Fair labor costs associated with handcrafted pieces in our debut collection Packaging and shipping supplies
Please help us start up Rajana Threads as we go on this journey to make Khmer textiles more visible and more accessible! Not only will you have beautiful pieces, but you will also be helping to sustain a part of our culture and support our women artisans. No amount is too small! All of our donors will receive a thank you acknowledgement.
We anticipate to launch early 2020.
Thank you.
