Hello, I'm Apol.

I have created this account for my sister, Carmela, in her battle against cervical cancer.

Karmi, as known to all our family and friends, is an active young lady. She's into sports and loves the outdoors so much - biking, mountaineering, paragliding, and camping. She loves music, sings and plays different instruments too.

Early February of this year, Ate Karmi got hospitalized due to difficulty in breathing and extreme pain in the right side of her abdomen. The findings were due to fluid in the lungs, mass in the liver, and in her cervix. She underwent several tests including a contrast CT Scan of her whole abdomen. After around 2 weeks she was discharged and continued medications at home.

Her lab results last February 27, 2021, concluded a minimal deviation adenocarcinoma (adenoma malignum) + lungs, liver, and peritoneal metastasis. It was shocking to know that she has stage 4B cervical cancer. A rare and aggressive one.

My sister opted for alternative treatment and she had our support. After more than a month of treatment, her body did not respond accordingly.

Right now, we are facing a tighter race against time, but we've seen how focused and determined she is on her new treatment journey - to start and complete her chemotherapy sessions.

To date, her weight has dropped significantly and her abdomen is accumulating fluid (massive ascites). It needs to be drained the soonest. The pandemic gives us a harder time as hospitals are mostly unavailable for new patients. But with God's grace and through your support and prayers, I am hopeful that we will get Ate Karmi out of this danger.

Please help my one and only sister surpass this challenging phase of her life. She is one strong woman and is fighting so well. I believe we should fight for her too.

She is yet to build a family of her own and I wish to see her happily live this life, too. Your donations will truly go a long way for Ate Karmi's cancer treatment and medications. God bless your kind hearts!

On behalf of our family, thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Apol Hidalgo

Hospital Day 12

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 04:26 pm

All but a beautiful day until later tonight, Ate Karmi started to feel sudden weakness. Her breathing is also irregular making it very difficult for her to breathe. If you can still remember, on her 8th day at the hospital, all the fluid was completely drained both from her abdomen. . . . .

Another fine day people and I want to give a special thanks to Joyce and Ate Jhing (member of Morales family) for donating blood and to all the people who wanted to donate as well. It's a tremendous help! She was transfused with 2 packs of blood, feeling a little. . . . .

Hospital Day 10

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 08:38 pm

We are looking at a bright day people, a BETTER DAY. A week before, she eats like a month-old baby and her stomach can't even bear it. Today, Ate Karmi is eating like a 10-year-old child, yea still not for her age (3*) but something worth celebrating already. These past. . . . .

Hospital Day 9

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 08:02 pm

Another rough day people. Ate Karmi's fever came back with the uneasiness and again feeling shaky. Based on the lab tests yesterday, there's some sort of infection in her blood. She was immediately referred to a specialist to have this checked and to do more tests. Unfortunately, the infection is. . . . .

Hospital Day 8

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 08:15 pm

Good news! Ate Karmi is now starting to eat rice which was so difficult for her to do before. She was also able to get a goodnight's sleep and her fever stopped already. Per her doctors, she still has to stay for more tests and observation just to be on. . . . .

Hospital Day 7

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 07:38 pm

Today is a better day. Ate Karmi is slowly transitioning from TPN to full oral food intake. Although she's still on TPN, her food processing orally is improving little by little. About the fluid in her tummy, draining is still ongoing with more than 5 liters drained. When she was. . . . .

Hospital Day 6

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 07:40 pm

Another day that we had hoped and prayed for. Ate Karmi does NOT have to undergo surgery as the ultrasound showed that her gallbladder was only inflamed because of the massive fluid in her abdomen. To date, 5 liters of fluid have been drained, and if it continues to accumulate over. . . . .

Hospital Day 4 & 5

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 04:10 pm

Yesterday, doctors just decided to continue the existing treatment and management while brainstorming on how they will proceed given my sister's weak condition. Today, even if the Oncologist mentioned that the fluid in the abdomen will help her during the chemotherapy sessions, they still decided to drain it due to. . . . .

Hospital Day 3

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 09:52 am

Ate Karmi is still having a hard time processing food orally. Because of that, TPN is still continuous since that can sustain her body by giving her enough nutrients. A new complication was also found and this time, a swollen gall bladder that can only be fixed through surgery. However,. . . . .

Hospital Day 2

Update posted by Apol Hidalgo at 07:14 am

It appears that the fluid accumulated in her abdomen will help on her chemotherapy sessions soon. The doctor mentioned that it contains a lot of protein that will surely be helpful in her sessions and will just subside by itself. Ate Karmi was in constant pain almost the whole day. . . . .
