Help Kaka Tupen with her recovery

Dear Donors,

My family and I are creating a donation drive for our beloved helper, Kaka Tupen. In early March, she suffered from acute abdominal pain, a bloated stomach and backaches which unfortunately worsened over time. Kaka was admitted to NUH on Monday, 22nd March and has undergone multiple tests and procedures. From the biopsies taken from the endometrium and cervix, Doctors found a cyst on her ovaries (Bilateral ovarian mass) and diagnosed her with either ovarian or cervix cancer. As the cancer is at its advanced stages, doctors have difficulty determining the site of origin of the tumour, except that it most likely arises from the female genital tract.

Doctors have recommended that she undergo further diagnostic tests to ascertain the source of the tumour before debulking surgery (Surgical removal of as much cancer tissue as possible in the abdomen). If the tumour cannot be completely removed through surgery, more biopsies have to be taken before going through chemotherapy.

Kaka wishes to seek medical treatment in Indonesia so that she can be together with her family. Living in a village in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, she and her family have little savings and no medical insurance. As she’s unable to afford the medical expenses, my family and I are trying our very best to raise funds to ensure she gets the required treatment and surgery to recuperate.

A little backstory…

Kaka Tupen moved to Singapore in 2003 and has been taking care of my family for 18 years as a domestic helper. Ever since we were little kids, she treated all of us as one of her own. She cooked our favourite meals, brought us to the neighbourhood park, took us to tuition classes, tended to us when we were ill and countless more.

She was a guardian and a role model who taught us important values like respect, kindness and gratitude. Despite facing personal financial difficulties and adversities back home, she persevered and never expressed her frustration towards us. She was the nicest. And when we faced challenges or failures of our own, she lent us a listening ear and gave us meaningful advice. Knowing she was always rooting for us, spurred us on to pursue our goals and passions further. Her actions inspired us to be better people every day. Also, whenever we have guests, she puts up a bright smile and welcomes them with open arms. Her positive and warm presence brings comfort to those around her. Those who’ve met her would know.

Although we would love to make more memories with her, it is best that she heads back home to her family as soon as possible. She is our best friend, sister and mother figure, and all we want is for her to be happy and healthy. We love her so much. We hope you can support her through this critical time.
