Kai is has filed his habeas corpus petition by himself. He can't afford a lawyer. He's also representing himself to appeal a District Court order denying his lawsuit, to obtain the rapist's financial records... because the rapist's estate was used to bribe expert witnesses at Kai's trial. When he gets a new trial, he may have to defend himself to avoid getting railroaded again by a lawyer from the rapist's circle of friends (the rapist was a prominent attorney). A lawyer who may or may not be bribed by the rapist's estate.

Adams State University offers a distance learning Paralegal Certificate Course. When Kai completes it, he can take the Advanced Paralegal Course; and even count these courses towards a college degree.
