Joy Gymnastics was founded out of the desire to create a community where kids are free to be themselves. Our gymnastics center aims to create a welcoming environment for students to feel successful and have fun through movement regardless of age, body type, gender, ethnicity or capability.
The founder of Joy Gymnastics, Larissa Alvarez (she/her) is a lifelong gymnast and has over 17 years of professional experience coaching and managing at a number of studios. In her many years of coaching she has attempted to create a positive and encouraging environment within the various spaces she has taught. And while the culture is evolving to be more inclusive and positive it’s not changing rapidly enough. After seeing the need for a gym that is inclusive and safe for all types of students, their families, as well as creates an environment where the coaches feel valued and free to express themselves, Larissa decided it was time for her to open her own space. The goal is for this space to be big enough to cater to all the children within a family but small enough for it to still feel personal. Larissa will be joined by three amazing coaches whose teaching philosophies echo that of Joy Gymnastics , Emily Quinlan, Lacee Garcia and Emily Aiken. Please visit our website here to learn more about their incredible accolades and experience.
Joy Gymnastics is currently running outdoor classes in Sunset Park but we are searching for a physical space in the area. There are many gymnastics studios in Brooklyn, but none that are currently serving the Sunset Park area, despite the fact that it is a very family friendly area. We are currently raising funds to open our first physical location.
Joy Gymnastics hopes to provide a sense of community to the families we will serve, but first we must ask our community for their help. Any amount toward opening up our space will be immensely appreciated. If you'd like to support in a different way please feel free to email us at [email protected]. Thank you for taking the time to read about Joy Gymnastics. Your support means so much to us!
