( This is about the life of John Masih . As he is uneducated the appeal is being written and managed by private individuals who do social work. We will let John tell his story in his own words. )

Dear friends !! I am a middle-aged man with two children, a girl and a boy. My beloved wife passed away 3 years ago. I am a resident of Lahore, Pakistan. When my wife was alive, we were poor but happy. I drove a rented rickshaw to provide for the rent of our small house in a slum area and also for other living expenses.

My children lose their mother and almost lose their father

My wife passed away due to health complications. I was a broken man left with the care of 2 young children. Before I could recover from this trauma, I fell a victim to a bad road accident. The rented rickshaw was destroyed. I received a major leg injury which immobilized me.

Efforts to stabilize emotionally and financially

I used up all my savings to pay for my treatment and the owner of the wrecked rickshaw for its repair. I had to borrow money as well to meet these and other needs. As soon as I regained my health, I took another rickshaw on rent ( I pay the owner 3.50 dollars per day, even if I don’t earn any money during my working hours ). I didn’t earn enough money to rent a room for my children and me. At first, my children used to spend the whole day in the rickshaw while I drove through the streets. At night, we all slept in the rickshaw.

Things have changed, but we still need your generosity to see us through these times

My children keep shifting between the houses of relatives. Nobody is willing to keep them more than a couple of days at a stretch. I still sleep in the rickshaw. To provide for my children a reasonable chance for a decent future, I spend a large portion out of my meager earnings to send them both to school.

Help me help my children

I am trying desperately to improve the circumstances of my family. My personal rickshaw would be a huge step towards improving our situation. A new rickshaw costs 1700 dollars. To save my children from the pain of short, temporary stays at different houses , I need a single room. This would cost approximately 500 dollars. To ensure this for a 6 month time period until I stabilize, the cost for the room would be approximately 500 dollars. Other necessities and living expenses for 6 months would amount to approximately 400 dollars. This is a total of 3500 dollars to give me a reasonable chance to reunite my family.
