Hi, I am Jescy Williams, an 11-year-old 6th grader at Atlanta Girls’ School. I have been blessed with an extremely special opportunity. I have been selected to become a People to People Student Ambassador to Greece, Italy and France. I will join a delegation of students my age on a 19-day educational program that will take us through Greece Athens, Aegina, Epidaurus, Olympia, Patras, Bari, Naples, Rome, Florence, Venice and Paris. Our curriculum will teach us about the history, culture, and people of the region. We will earn special insights into:
- Renaissance art and architecture
- World War II history
- History and architecture of the Roman Empire
After all, there is no better way to learn about culture than to experience it firsthand.
We will be led by experienced teachers and engage in a wide variety of cultural encounters and adventures. We will get to interact with a European government official, meet with a monk (or nun) in Italy to learn what life is really like inside a monastery (convent), help citizens protect endangered sea turtles near Athens, walk through the ancient ruins of the Forum, learn about Rome in the time of the emperors and explore the Vatican. Needless to say, I am incredibly excited. We will visit museums, historical sites and world treasures such as the Louvre Museum, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Michelangelo’s David at the Sistine Chapel, St. Mark’s Basilica, the Eiffel Tower, Palace of Versailles, Pompei and the Parthenon.
I want to see the world, connect with other cultures and gain the independence only travel can bring. However, I need your help to make these dreams a reality. I am paying my way and raising money for the program. Would you be willing to help sponsor my trip?
