Help Jenny to Volunteer in Costa Rica

Welcome to my fundraising page for my volunteering trip to Costa Rica, Central America.

Help me to raise the funds needed to volunteer teach in Costa Rica and secondly help with conservation work in Costa Rica’s Barra Honda National Park. The work I could do would improve the education for underprivileged children; making lasting improvements to the community and children’s lives, as well as carry out essential conservation work in a tropical rainforest and cave system.

My Goal: To strive to make a real contribution to the lives of a struggling Third World community through education and volunteer teaching, as well as to help and dedicate myself in conserving an important and valuable cave system and tropical rainforest ecosystem.

The reasons why I need your help raising funds:

1)      I’m currently a student studying Human Geography (due to graduate in summer 2014) and I am then planning to teach TEFL for a year in Spain after I finish university. Despite the fact I will be saving money during this time, it will unfortunately be nowhere near enough to pay all of the fees involved with volunteering overseas. Helping disadvantaged children, teaching those who need it, providing community support and helping to conserve an incredibly significant eco-system are things that I am incredibly passionate about and I can’t do it without a little help.

2)      I am a keen advocate of the importance of education in the developing world and wish to make a direct positive impact on the community in Heredia or in San Jose Costa Rica. I would greatly appreciate any gifts from family and friends that could help me in achieving my dream of volunteering abroad to help communities in need and protect the environment.

Breakdown of costs:

£1595 – Volunteer Fees for Teaching for 4 weeks (including insurance, room and board)

£545 – Volunteer Fees for 1 Week Conservation Add-On (including insurance, room and board)

£695 – Flight to Costa Rica

£20 – Visa into Costa Rica

£120 – Vaccinations against multiple diseases

Total Needed = £2975

(Any remaining money after this will be donated to the Projects Abroad community schools programme that will help provide important resources, supplies and services for the school.)

The 5 week trip will be made up of 4 weeks volunteer teaching English in a placement school in Heredia or in San Jose and then 1 week of conservation and environmental work, which will be part of a tropical rainforest project in the Barra Honda National Park. This volunteering trip will be booked through Projects Abroad which is a reputable company that do a lot of good work with the help from volunteers; however this does all come at a cost. The people in these communities will have their quality of live greatly improved by the education and knowledge that I can bring to them. The conservation work in the national park needs a constant stream of volunteers to help keep the area protected.
