I am Indonesian. And I am Jewish, with Dutch Jewish ancestry. Yes Indonesian Jews do exist. However, we are "extincting". Many of us have mostly assimilated, if they have not moved abroad by now. Very few have kept our Jewish identity while living in this Muslim predominantly country. There are about 240 million Muslims in Indonesia, that is so much more than the entire Arab world combined. Judaism is not acknowledged by the government. We have no Orthodox Jewish synagogue nor authority in the country, since our Rabbi made aliyah in May 2019. Today there are less than 200 observant (Indonesian) Jews here.
I love to learn because I love to give back and teach in Indonesian. I even have my own YouTube channel where I can share with others what I have learned, and all in the local Indonesian language. By this, I am hoping to reach over 1000 halachic Jews in Indonesia who have assimilated, and probably inspire them to embrace their heritage again. They are all spread throughout the 17,000 islands of Indonesia. My YouTube videos can effectively reach them in any corner with internet there.
This is the reason that this year, I have applied to learn at the Midrasha B'erot Bat Ayin in Israel. The more I learn, the more I will be able to share with others and bring Torah light also for the entire world of Indonesians, not just Indonesian Jews. Attached you will be able to find my acceptance letter from the women seminary, including the cost or you can download the document in PDF file here: Midrasha Acceptance Letter.
However, staying in Israel and not being able to work while learning, is very expensive for me. Thus, this crowdfunding fundraiser. Please help me fund my studies and trip, so I can share more and bring more light of Torah in my part of the world... any amount will be very helpful!
Please know that the more I can raise funds, the longer I can stay.
