Help him recover from battling cancer in Venezuela

Our son, Manuel Hernando "Manu" Gómez Cortés, is a 19 years old Venezuelan. At the end of October 2017, Manuel felt a pain in his right leg which was getting stronger. After several tests he was diagnosed with CONVENTIONAL OSTEOSARCOMA, a form of cancer.

Our son, Manuel Hernando "Manu" Gómez Cortés, is a 19 years old Venezuelan. Manu is an athlete of high competence, becoming one of the best in Venezuela while participating in national and international tournaments. He is currently studying his third trimester of Electrical Engineering at Simón Bolívar University (USB), one of the most competitive universities in Venezuela.

At the end of October 2017, Manuel felt a pain in his right leg which was getting stronger and stronger. After several tests he was diagnosed with CONVENTIONAL OSTEOSARCOMA, a form of cancer that requires chemotherapy treatment, followed by a surgery in which the tumor mass and part of the femur and knee will be removed. These anatomical parts will be replaced by a non-conventional prosthesis, and then followed another round of chemotherapy. Treatment began in December 2017, and Manu is responding very well to treatment.

Due to the current political and economic crisis in Venezuela, and the great shortage of medicines, Manu does not have any medical insurance coverage, and we must make a great effort to import some medicines and conduct some tests outside Venezuela. All expenses have been partially covered by family support and increasing debts to the clinic. For this reason, we ask for any help you can give us to face this long process of healing of our son Manu, which is estimated to last at least 1 year.

Nuestro hijo, Manuel Hernando “Manu” Gómez Cortés, es un joven venezolano de 19 años, deportista de alta competencia, llegando a destacarse entre los mejores de Venezuela con la participación en torneos nacionales e internacionales. Actualmente cursa estudios en el tercer trimestre de Ingeniería Eléctrica en la Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB), una de las universidades más competitivas de Venezuela.

A finales del mes de octubre de 2017, Manuel sintió un dolor en la pierna derecha el cual se hacía cada vez más fuerte. Luego de varios exámenes fue diagnosticado con OSTEOSARCOMA CONVENCIONAL, un tipo de cáncer que requiere un tratamiento de quimioterapia, seguido de una cirugía en la cual se le extraerá la masa tumoral y parte de fémur y rodilla. Estas partes anatómicas serán reemplazadas por una prótesis no convencional que representa un instrumento de alto costo, y luego será seguido por otra serie de quimioterapias. El tratamiento comenzó en diciembre 2017, y Manu está evolucionando muy bien al tratamiento.

Debido a la actual crisis político-económica que se vive en Venezuela y a la gran escasez de medicamentos, Manu no posee cobertura de ningún seguro médico y debemos hacer un gran esfuerzo para importar algunas medicinas y realizar algunos exámenes fuera de Venezuela. Todos los gastos han sido cubiertos parcialmente por ayudas de familiares y deudas crecientes con la clínica. Por este motivo, solicitamos la ayuda que ustedes bien puedan darnos para encarar este largo proceso de curación de nuestro hijo Manu, el cual se estima dure al menos 1 año.
