He deserves a chance.
My son is 12 years old.
He has been diagnosed as being on the spectrum as mildly autistic, or as some of you may know ASD
We are currently on our 4th school for him and he does not fit the mould for traditional schooling.
As he is growing, the light in his eyes is dying.
we are witnessing his confidence slowly being crushed.
Every day at school he is constantly reprimanded for things out of his control.
He is not a naughty boy, he is not disrespectful or rude.
He struggles to sit still or keep focus and this frustrates the teachers.
He then gets reprimanded in front of the class and then is boxed off as the ‘bad kid’
This has been going on year after year. He comes out of school telling me he tried his hardest to be good.
I ask what he got in trouble for, it is never for being mean, or spiteful.
He gets into trouble for fiddling or not being able to focus. Or not being able to stay seated longer than an hour.
As the children start to study for exams the pressure will be worse than ever for the teachers and children to deliver good results.
This will add to the stress levels and create an even more toxic environment.
I have just discovered a new school just opened in our town with a democratic system which would suit my son and allow him to grow and explore the passions he enjoys and do this in a positive environment. I believe this will be giving him the opportunity to achieve great things.
He is super smart, funny, kind and caring, but these beautiful qualities are being over looked by his inability to fit the typical school system and as a result it is making him feel useless, stupid, naughty and alone.
he feels different and it in a good way.
I have tried various schools and have realised that the schools are the broken ones not my son.
These schools he has attended have 1 method of teaching and everyone has to follow this same method.
If you can not follow this system you are made to feel like a failure.
So many people on the spectrum have gone on to achieve great things and I believe this is due to learning in a positive environment.
My son is legally in the school system for another 3 years and I want to make it count.
He deserves the chance to fit in,and he deserves to enjoy what is left of his school years.
This new school I have found, helps to push children’s passions. It’s doesn’t follow a curriculum. It doesn’t punish you for not sitting still, it doesn’t force learning.
it guides you with your own learning process at your own pace.
It helps social interaction, it builds confidence.
It would be amazing for my son and would suit his needs.
Unfortunately it comes at a price tag of 12,000 euros per year.
This is where I need your help!
If you can help, this could give him the chance of a lifetime.
