Help her help others

This is Aishwarya.

She comes from a poor family in a small remote village in Nepal. At a young age, she was separated from her parents and raised by her grandmother in the village.

Unfortunately, the earthquake of 2015 claimed the lives of 9.000 people, leaving another 22.000 people injured. Her grandmother's house was destroyed during the catastrophe and people from all over the area were tended to in "Health Camps" - scarce in numbers and a temporary solution at best. Locals could see a doctor every once in a while in irregular intervals. As Aishwarya's village is so remotely located, traveling to the nearest hospital takes a long time - sometimes too long.

There are no medical professionals in the village and many residents don't make it to the hospital in time during emergencies, sadly.

Aishwarya's only goal: becoming the first doctor in her village.

This brings us to why I'm here, appealing to each and every one of you.

I consider myself incredibly fortunate, growing up in a first-world country with everything I need - education, healthcare, advanced infra-structure and an open world of opportunity. Every once in a while, we all tend to forget how good we have it and take it for granted.

A colleague of mine has been sponsoring Aishwarya for the past three years via The Dolma Foundation, as she graduated high school. The foundation has been sponsoring over 100 children in the area - food, education, clothing. He shared her story with his network, including myself, and it just stuck with me. I have no personal ties to Aishwarya, but her story was enough to win me over.

Not only that, but Aishwarya's predicament gave me a thorough reality check. "It could have been me" crossed my mind on more than one occasion. My parents made their way to Western Europe with nothing, trying to give me a better life. I've been given everything, but there are people far more deserving than I in the world - and I firmly believe that Aishwarya is one of them. Do you?

In order for her to start her 5-year education at the medical school, it will cost EUR €60.000, with the first year already starting in October 2019 for EUR €22.000. She passed her entrance exams with flying colors, but couldn't start her education due to a lack of funds. This year, we want to change that through you.

Please don't get me wrong. This is not "Please donate because this person is poor". By helping Aishwarya, we have the chance to help countless other people in the future. After she finishes medical school, she wants to returning to her village as the first doctor ever.
