My name is Reda. I am here to start a fundraising for my godmother. Even though we try to help her in every way, we too have to survive and we can’t do it by ourselves. That's why I’m here, reaching my hand to you asking for help.
My godmother Nijole, 48 years old, is a very quiet, shy but lovely woman. 16 years ago she met a man and moved from Lithuania to Belgium for good. Now she has been struggling for a few years with her ex-husband who is terrorizing her life everyday. This man makes her life a living hell. They have 2 children together: a sweet daughter of 9 and a son of 15 who is autistic. It all started when she finally got the courage to leave him, the man who had been shouting at her everyday, didn't watch over the children and was terrorising her and the neighbors by throwing stuff at them, but is cunning enough to leave the place and say to the police he wasn’t home.
Now that she got away from him, he can't get to her physically, but knows that she is not strong mentally and financially. Nijole is a quiet woman with a lot of patience. For some years now, she has been taking antidepressants. She started taking them before she left him.
Now he is trying to take the children away from her. Her children are her life, she loves them very much and tries to keep her head up although it’s hard. He is trying to take away everything from her even though she already doesn’t have anything. With just a little courage she still finds the strength to study to get a better job.
He is demanding money from her, which she doesn’t have, using a notary and they are threatening to confiscate all she has. The man is trying to ruin the mother of his children. We try to help but can't do it by ourselves. We are the only family she has here, and her family in Lithuania would have to give up months of incomes, they are struggling themselves to get through the month.
Because of circumstances her lawyer charged her € 2500 when she filed for divorce. Her ex-husband is working with a notary and he is demanding from her over € 10 000. From a woman who gets €1200 a month, pays the half for rent only and still has other payments,... and has to care for her children too. Like I said, we help her in all the capacity we can, but it’s all just too much.
It would be wonderful to see her smile again with less worries.
Any amount given would help her out to get on her feet again and start a new life she is dreaming for so long.
I thank you for your attention. And God bless you all.
