Hi friends, my name is Markka Vosloo and this is a fundraiser for my dad Hendrik Vosloo, so he can walk and work again.
Considering that this is the first time I have created a GoFundMe page, I feel compelled to explain to you, fully, how my Dad got to where he is now. I truly hope that I can get the help my dad needs in order for him to provide for his family again.
Many of us question the things that we see floating around the internet, so that is why I am adding my personal email for you to communicate with me at any time. It is imperative that you know any type of donation goes directly into the hands of the individual that needs it.
I want to thank you very much for the time you have already spent, and I would also like to thank you for reading the rest of this story. I truly believe good things are going to come from this page.
Let's start from the beginning.
In 2015 my Father got declared unfit for open work in the mining industry he worked for due to a back injury. He was forced to take an early retirement and went on pension. After he was declared unfit we fought with the mining industry to get another position due to the fact that at the time he was providing for a family of 4 and pension is not enough to pay for everything. After almost a year and a back surgery the company took him back into a position much lower than his own just to make ends meat. It was not long until the company was forced to retrench a 1000+ workers and my father was one of the people retrenched. Forced back on pension he struggled to pay everything and had to let his medical insurance go.
In 2018 my father had started to do odd jobs to make extra money on top of the pension to make ends meat and provide for this family. By the end of 2018 he started to have problems in both knees, but without the medical insurance it was hard to go to the doctor for help, as time went on the knee problems got worse. It got to the point where he struggled to walk without crutches and due to that he stopped doing the extra work for extra money. In 2019, it got to a point where we had no choice, so we took him to a doctor, and he had a right knee replacement surgery on the knee with the most injuries of the cost of $9000. That knee surgery put my father in terrible debt of which he is still trying to pay off with his pension. We could not afford to pay for the other knee replacement as well.
Which brings us to the present. My father uses crutches to walk on a good day which is rare and mostly moves around in a chair. The left knee has severe osteoarthritis and is unstable to use. On 11 Jan 2021 my father visited the local doctor for the last time of which he recommended total knee replacement surgery otherwise my father would end up in a wheelchair permanently. This news saddens me deeply because my father's pension is not enough to afford health care and providing for his family let alone to afford a surgery.
The surgery cost can be a total of $15000 depending on who is doing the surgery, the prosthetic, hospital and medication used within the period.
We tried other options like a loan or pension funding, but we were not successful. I truly do not like asking anybody for help, but I do not know what to do or where to turn any more. That is why I started this GoFundMe page. I am just trying in any way to help my Father to not end up in a wheelchair.
I understand that we are all feeling the effects of Covid-19 around the world and I also understand that finances are tough for everyone. I hope that when you read this you can find it in their heart to spare whatever you can. To put into perspective even $10 is 148,68 South African rand. Anything contributed is appreciated greatly by myself, and it would make a world of difference to my father on his path to the surgery.
If you feel donating money is too difficult at this time, I would ask that you do your best to share this page with as many people as possible on your social media. The further we reach, the more success we will have.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you greatly for your time and your support.
