Help Haru Walk Again

Our hearts are broken into a million pieces. We found Haru shaking in the lounge on Friday morning, we immediately went to the vet and got her x-rayed and we were told she had injured her leg and only needed some pain meds. Fast forward to Friday night, Haru lost all ability to walk suddenly, we were in tears because we knew for sure it was serious. This is our worst nightmare for our baby Haru who is the love of our life. On Saturday phoned the disk specialist but of course it's hard to get an MRI without a booking and even harder to get immediate surgery. We were put on a waiting list for an MRI, we waited all day in case there was a cancelation because they were fully booked. We couldn't believe our luck, someone canceled their dog's MRI so Haru went for a CT scan and MRI scan on Saturday afternoon with the devastating results being that Haru has 3 herniated intervertebral discs that needed immediate surgery. There wasn't much time, the specialist booked her in for disc surgery at 5pm, we were told that there was a 20% chance Haru wouldn't survive the surgery (due to nerve issues) we were in bits and pieces. Haru endured a 3.5 hour surgery on her back. We were beyond happy with tears of joy when she woke up from the surgery, we are still waiting to hear from the specialist if the operation was a total success. We have gotten Haru the best care at the best specialist but that comes at a huge cost. Haru is booked into hospital and can not come home until she shows signs of recovery and mobility. Sunday, March 12th Update #1

Haru did a nerve test, thank the universe she can feel her back paws which means her nerves are working again ( on Saturday she couldn't feel her paws) We don't know if she can stand up or walk yet, that comes later right now she still has to rest. Haru ate a little bit of soft food for breakfast and sat up when we came to see her, sadly we can't go very near because she's not supposed to move. All we want to do is tell her we're here for her and love her. Tomorrow we have an appointment with the specialist to find out more details about Haru's progress. Haru has a nurse that checks on Haru all day and sends us pictures daily, the two pictures in the gallery are from today. Send love and prayers to our trust fall, chin resto queen.

Monday, March 13th Update #2

**Summary : Haru can stand but only one leg has strength, she is eating but cries if she sees us through the window. She is eating a little bit but still on a lot pain meds. Today we took her one of Grif's favorite toys so she could smell her bestie and feel comforted that we are waiting for her.

Today we visited our darling Haru twice at her hospital, we are still not allowed to touch her incase she gets excited so we can just look at her from afar - this morning she started crying/ singing the song of her people when she saw us looking at her so we were asked to leave early which breaks our hearts because all we want to do is give her a hug. We met with her specialist which came with good news and some not so good news- Haru stood up today but only has strength in one back leg not both so she will not be coming home tomorrow, possibly on Wednesday if she makes good progress ( we are really praying our girl can come home soon but we know she is in good hands) We are spending our time outside the hospital researching how we can best support Haru when she is home and learning about how we can make her post operation recovery a success. In our afternoon visit we took Haru one of Griffin's soft toys so she could smell Grif and know that we were waiting for her. Please keep our sweet girl in your prayers.
