Campaign Story
Did you know that nearly 50% of the population in Uganda is under the age of 14? Here are some other stats that display the heartbreaking reality of Uganda today:
- The average Ugandan lives on less than $1.80 a day
- 38% of children chronically undernourished or stunted
- 30% are illiterate
- Only 25% of young people remain in school past grade 6
- There are 2.5 million orphans, including 1.2 million orphaned from AIDS Unfortunately, children are the most vulnerable victims to corruption. Over the years thousands have been abducted for use as child soldiers in remote regions or forced to become sex slaves. To make it worse, the systemic poverty deprives many children, particularly those on the streets and the nearly two million orphans, of care and finances for education and hope. The strong spiritual and physical needs in Uganda are surely close to the heart of Jesus. Our ministry will include discipleship and evangelism in schools, slum areas, orphanages, and villages on the outskirts of Kampala. We’ll encounter and minister to school children, street children, troubled teen boys, teen mothers and women coming out of prostitution. Sports, drama, dance, and education about character, choices, and other crucial “life skill” lessons will become important tools for bringing the hope of Jesus to countless lives!
