My name is Guzman Apostol, 34 years old and I'm from Bacolod City, Philippines. I'm married with two kids, 1 year old boy and 4 year old daughter. I am an Electrical Engineer graduated from University of Negros Occidental Recoletos. The city where I lived has little opportunity for me to grow professionally and economically. The salary of an engineer in our city working in a private company cannot suffice the needs of my family since my wife's income is not also stable. I'm only earning a net income of $400. I have worked for many years in the Engineering field of construction, energy and maintenance but until now, I have no savings because most of our income goes directly to the hospital expenses of our children (especially our daughter who is very sickly) and our basic needs: milk, food, utilities, etc.
Other than my profession, I have developed an interest in Electronics. I studied very hard. I have devised many gadgets and repaired numerous electrical/electronic devices and musical instruments. Most of the items I've repaired were totally defective that many repair shops could not fix it anymore. I don't know why I can easily detect and solve problems. I enjoy analyzing, solving problems and getting to the bottom of it. I don't know why I have so much passion for learning. I have acquired many skills through self-study. Perhaps, my inspiration always comes from God and my family. For many years now, I have put up a repair shop at my backyard so I can have sideline jobs to sustain the needs and demands of our family. It has helped us financially but it has limit my capacity to promote my skills and abilities. I even constructed my workshop area even I was short of materials. I used scrap materials (corrugated galvanized iron) to build it as long as I have a place to work. My customers are usually just my neighbors, my wife's colleagues and my friends' friends. They just drop their items at home and collect it after a few days.
Now that my kids are growing up fast and the demands are also getting higher, I need to find ways how to advertise my "shop." My customers are always satisfied of my service and would always encourage me to get a commercial space to rent but I don't have any capital to start from it. I have found a place and there must be 1 month advanced and 3 months deposit fees. It will be a total of $1200.00 because the average unit costs $300 monthly. I also have to modify the place with furniture and install electrical outlets and circuits from which I will be doing most of the work to save from hiring other people. I will also be processing the papers for my shop to have a license/permit to operate. I have my tools already but I will buy more to provide quality service to my customers. These will approximately cost another $600. So, I have to prepare a total of 1,800 for the entire plan to work. Unfortunately, due to financial problems, I am unable to pay that amount.
I believe God has appointed generous people to help me achieve my goal. I am very thankful for the opportunities that I have had so far! I thank you in advance for each contribution, no matter how small!
Thank you,
Guzman
