Help Gurune Fm Buy a New Transmitter, Equipment & Refurbish

Help Gurune FM to upgrade its equipment and refurbish its community radio station in rural Ghana.

Radio Gurune 99.3FM is a Rural Broadcasting Station located in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East region of Ghana. The Gurune Community Radio 99.3 FM covers over 1000 communities in the Upper East Region of Ghana, broadcasting in the main major languages (Gurune, Nabdam, Talin, Nankane, respectively). The radio station is based out of Bukere, Bolgatanga. Our main focus broadcast is targeting the youth, women, and the larger community.

Gurune FM promotes the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Community Development, Frafra Music - Fashion - Art and Craft. Currently, we are engaging 12 community youth groups in promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reflecting this in their community's situation. Each youth group selects which of the 17 SDGs reflects the social issues that will help them in their community development advocacy. This project trains youth ages 15-25 in broadcast skills and social media, which they will use for community development and outreach. Also, our 25 broadcast volunteers also get training in communication skills, to further develop radio programs on nutrition, maternal child health, family planning and the vaccination of pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers.

We strive for communities, where women will be accorded equality and dignity, supporting farming and other economic activities, which need to be modernized and advance education and health. Furthermore it is important that the Gurune language and culture is preserved as a living testimony of their identity.

We are raising funding in stages to upgrade the studio and equipment in Bolgatanga, Ghana. We need a new transmitter. The transmitters are the heart and soul of a radio station’s transmission system. Refurbish the facility. Once funds have been raised, we will buy the transmitter and get it shipped directly to Bolgatanga. The money for refurbishment will be passed on to Gurune FM.
