Help Guatemalan primary school with rain water collection system

HELP PROVIDING SUFFICIENT AND CLEAN DRINKING WATER FOR PANYEBAR PRIMARY SCHOOL, GUATEMALA

Beyond the villages that you see around Lake Atitlan, in southwestern Guatemala, there are many smaller villages which are not profiting from tourism. These remote villages often lack access to drinking water, higher education and safe housing. Many of the remote villages surrounding Lake Atitlan only receive tap water once or twice a week and some people must walk long distances to receive their water. Currently, their only method of purifying water is to boil it, which is not 100% safe and requires a lot of firewood.

One such village is PANYEBAR, where we believe the greatest need is to assist the students and teachers at the Panyebar primary school.

Our Projects in the Primary School of Panyebar with this fundraiser.

• Providing micron filtration filters and buckets – it is possible to filter 100,000 gallons of water in a safe and fast way. The cost of one large water filtration system for a school costs approx. $190.
• Building a rain-water collection system to ensure sufficient water supply. The cost for material, transport and local labor is approx. $3,500.

Our stretch goals:

• Buying a projector for the classrooms, which costs approximately $ 300.
• Building ecologic composting toilets that prevent water wastage and produce organic fertilizer. The cost of two bathrooms with 8 ecological clivus multrum composting toilets using solar panels and fans is approx. $18,000.
