THIS IS MY MAMA

This is my mama, Evangeline Tuvera Pastor. She is my best friend, my living diary, my everything. My parents were separated at an early age, though do co-parenting well. She is the sweetest person - she would always think of me first, rather than attend to the needs of her own. She would always be there for me, even if time is constrained. She is an affectionate and thoughtful mother - she would bombard me with love and understanding especially through tough times. She is a strong woman, a fighter. She got better from breast cancer. Even though she was sick, she would work as a staff in a rehabilitation center to procure her treatments, alongside with the aid of government organizations to pay for her chemotherapy, radiation, and operation (lumpectomy). She was diagnosed at stage 3B, and it decreased to stage 2A (HER2+). She fought silent battles and portrayed that everything was okay to protect me, to provide for me - even though she was hard up. She would do everything for me, and I too, would do everything and exhaust all means to give her the best treatment, as she would do in my place too.

The past two weeks, she was complaining of fever, body weakness, and headaches. She had episodes of persecution complex and agitation. We extracted her blood, went to the laboratory, yet her laboratory results were clean.

Yet, on a tuesday morning, I saw her crawling on the floor unable to stand up, reaching for the bed. She had lost strength of legs, unable to stand up. Then, I called up my father - Joseph, and brother - Christian, and we brought her to the ER. She had undergone all clinical chemistry laboratory tests yet they were clean. She had gone through an MRI and ultrasound, revealing meningal signs (inflammation or swelling of the brain). There were no signs of metastasis (spread of cancer).

For a week, the doctors were ruling out different kinds of sicknesses - bacterial meningitis, viral meningitis, and autoimmune anti NMDA encephalitis. The tests were done and sent to Manila and France. After a week, the meningal panel came out negative. Leaving autoimmune anti-NMDA encephalitis on the table, yet the result would be released 31 days after receiving.

She is now intubated and hooked up on a mechanical ventilator alongside a chest tube thoracotomy due to acute respiratory failure type 2 and pneumothorax (air/water in the lungs).

As her daughter, and her reason to live, I am asking everyone for your prayers and monetary donations to aid in her future treatments, recovery, and healing.

While waiting for the anti NMDA result, she is now being treated with IV immunoglobulins and steroids as the first line of treatment. Secondary to this may be plasmapheresis and rituximab as a second line if treatment does not work.

We are currently struggling with financial aid and funds, having reached a growing Php 750,000k+ bill in the hospital since February 20, 2023. Due to financial difficulty, we are planning on transferring her to Baguio General Hospital.

IV immunoglobulins were paid by her brothers and sisters (Php 450,000), and other tests sent outside were another batch of expenses already paid for care of my other family members, relatives, and kind donations from friends.

I am calling out to everyone to open their kind hearts, to pray for healing and recovery, and help us in any way you can.

I hope that through you, hand in hand, we could give her another chance to live - to let her feel the love she deserves and give her victory she is fighting for.

I believe that we can get through this... together.

Sincerely,

Johnnyrose "Ayumi" Tuvera Pastor
