In August 2016 my cousins Dustin (age 24) and his siblings unexpectedly lost their mum Janet (pictured above) in tragic circumstances. Ever since, Dustin, who is the youngest of three children, has been shouldering a great deal of responsibility to help his family through this heartbreaking time. Our grandmother, who was looked after and cared for by Janet in her home, needed to be relocated to a care home, which Dustin took full responsibility for. He found a great home 5 minutes from his house, and since has been supporting grandma throughout the week with shopping, picking up prescriptions and just generally ensuring Grandma is well looked after. He visits Grandma a number of times a week and has gladly taken on this big responsibility. To put this into context, Dustin often works 70 hour weeks as a lorry driver just to meet his financial obligations and his shifts start at 2 am. With almost no sleep, his family commitments and his long shifts, Dustin has very little time to do things a normal 24 year old should do, and has had very little space to grieve. I am asking for fundraising for a two reasons. After Dustin's mum passed away Dustin was unable to work for a number of weeks. Understandably because he was grieving, but also because he was involved in organizing a celebration of life for his mum. Dustin shouldered a great deal of the financial cost for this celebration and also of hosting family members and friends who came to grieve with him. His generosity at this time was astounding despite the fact he had very little. It goes without saying but during this time while Dustin was not at work he still had his mortgage and bills to pay, which all had to be done on credit. Since August Dustin has been struggling to make ends meet so a portion of this fundraising would go towards giving him the fresh start he deserves and paying off his debts.

The second reason is to help Dustin renovate his house and create a rent-able unit. Dustin's house has the potential to be split into two units and with the rent of one part Dustin would be able to reduce his hours at work, and gain a bit of his life back. I hope I have conveyed just how selfless Dustin has been through this difficult time. His thoughts have always been for the welfare of others, at the cost of his own, and I so desperately want him to have the fresh start he deserves.
I am setting up a fundraising request in the hope that you kind and generous people will be able to support Dustin in moving forward with his life. Dustin has no idea and to be quite honest would be mortified! I would love to bless him as a surprise so please share this story if it resonates with you and you know of anyone who could help. Thank you for taking the time to read this story, God Bless.
