UPDATE: The campaign has been closed and the money raised will be donated to the YMCA charity which is hosting Giovanni in one of their facilities and providing him with hot meals every day. I have to wait 7 days before I can withdraw the funds, then I will make the donation and post the photo of the receipt on this page.

Now Giovanni has a mobile phone, clothes and everything he needs to continue with his job search. Unfortunately we still haven't been able to find a suitable one for him, due to his health conditions which he has neglected in the last year and which now require medical attention.

I uploaded the receipts showing how the donation money received offline was spent.

Giovanni is in good hands now. Thank you all!

Hi everyone, I am Alessandro and I'm the guy with the white shirt in the photo above. I am a lucky person who does not need anything. The man with the hat, instead, is called Giovanni and he is an Italian national who has been in Malta for the last 6 years and is going through a very difficult period in his life, from which he can only get out with our help.

I live in Santa Venera and I met Giovanni a few days ago while I was going for a walk in triq il wied in Msida. As soon as I passed by, he said the word "Mangiare"(eat) to me, in a low voice and looking at the ground, as if he were ashamed of what he was doing. From there I started talking to him and we met again in the following days, so that I could listen to his story and figure out how I could help him.

Giovanni is 54 years old, he has always worked as a carpenter in Italy and 6 years ago he decided to move to Malta to work as a carpenter for an Italian construction company in Malta. Unfortunately, the owner of this company never made him sign a contract and always made him work illegally. After 4 years he decided to accept the job offer of another construction company, in which he worked without ever being paid and then be sent away after only 2 months.

From May 2021 to August 2021. Giovanni made several posts on his facebook profile and on the Facebook group “Italiani a Malta” to seek for a job, but unfortunately without luck.

Not being able to pay the rent anymore, in August 2021 Giovanni was forced to leave the apartment and went to live in the street where unfortunately his mobile phone was stolen and therefore he lost every possibility to stay in touch with people and seek for work.

After a few days the police noticed him and found him a place where he can sleep temporarily. At the moment he shares a room with 8 people in a dormitory in Msida.

With no money, no mobile phone and unable to speak English, unfortunately Giovanni fell into despair and stopped fighting. For some months now Giovanni has been spending his days sitting on a low wall on the side of the road in Msida and repeating the word "mangiare"(eat) to all the people who pass by, even here with no luck, because Giovanni has always been a hard worker and is not used to beg for money.

Giovanni wants to get back his life and start working again. Unfortunately, just before coming to Malta, Giovanni underwent a heart operation and for this reason the doctor forbade him to do hard works, but having been a carpenter for all his life, he still continued to do so.

I would like to raise €1000 to buy him food, new clothes, take him to a barber, let him take a shower, buy him a bicycle to move around and a mobile phone.

This money will not be given directly to Giovanni but I will personally go with him to the various shops and I will pay for him. By doing this I will make sure that the money will be used for the things he really needs.

This would be just the beginning, but Giovanni urgently needs a job that will allow him to rent an apartment and start a new life. If you have any job to offer please contact me directly on facebook (Alessandro Roganti).
