Hello everyone! My name is Gina Koussa and I have just turned 20 years
old. I have been lucky enough to receive acceptance letters to 4
wonderful universities around the UK. I will be getting my Joint honours
in Crisis management, humanitarian aid & international development.
for many years, the hardships of one of the poorest and most deprived
townships in South Africa, has made me realize the unparalleled
importance of being able to uplift rural communities. On one of my aid
trips to Orange Farm, I was attacked, and not for the reasons one might
think. While handing out food, I was half trampled, not out of malice,
but out of shear starvation. People were so hungry that they couldn’t
wait for me to hand out food, so they stampeded me. That experience has
influenced me for many years. I will never forget being a wreck for days
because as a young girl, who had food on the table every day, I could
not comprehend that people could be so hungry. This experience has
shaped me as a person and I would like to spend the rest of my life
helping those in developing countries.
As many reading this may already know I have had a turbulent school career due to financial issues but was able to graduate last month regardless. My biggest obstacle now is finding the funds to ensure I can live out my dreams. My university costs are astronomically high and neither of my parents have had an income for over 2 years. My dad was diagnosed with a rare back disease and my mom has had to stay home to care for him. Any amount would be greatly appreciated as every $1 counts. Whatever donations I receive will go towards my plane ticket, books, accommodations and obviously tuition. Thank you in advance for your help, it means the world to me!
