Singer, dancer, musician, and team manager Nyiko Ollen Makama has been the heart-beat of the African Village at Window of the World Theme Park in Shenzhen, China, since March 2015. Contracted by our company PINK (Passion Investment Nurture Kulture), Nyiko has been our champion right from the start proving to be a very popular performer.

In an unimaginable sequence of events, Nyiko's life has been thrown into turmoil. On Sunday 1st Nov 2020, he was arrested for alleged sexual misconduct. Because of the "alleged" crime, our "contract" with Window of the World was cancelled immediately, and the two female dancers were sent back to South Africa while Nyiko was held in police custody for 14 days. There was also an immigration violation added to the alleged crimes. The knock-on effect has brought our company PINK to its knees.

We are appealing to our friends and the general public to ensure that Nyiko can return safely to South Africa. He is currently waiting for his case to go to trial and for justice to prevail.

When the Theme Park cut the salaries by 50% because of COVID, our Company continued to subsidise our artists' salaries to ensure that they could take care of their families back home in South Africa. The salary cuts continued for six months, depleting our cash flow.

The financial impact of Nyiko's situation is more than we can manage. Apart from the bail and the immigration fine, the Theme Park is also demanding a substantial penalty from PINK to make up for the losses they have suffered.

With the generous donation from Eric Youssoufian, we were able to secure a Chinese lawyer, who has been invaluable in representing both Nyiko's and PINK's case. He succeeded in persuading the Theme Park to drop the fines related to the work visa violation. He also negotiated a reduction in the penalty fine imposed on PINK. We are left with needing to pay the penalty fine, the bail, and Nyiko's flight home and ensuring that his day to day needs are taken care of while he awaits his trial in China.

It is our mission to see Nyiko safely home with his family in Limpopo in the New Year. We welcome your help in managing these unforeseen expenses:

  • Bail 10000CNY / $1600 /R23 000.00
  • Penalty $1150
  • Food and accommodation for the duration of his stay in China $ 500
  • A flight home when this nightmare is finally over, approximately $ 800

Nyiko is a young South African in a hostile situation, he needs some kindness, and he needs our help.
