Ever since Melanie was an itty, bitty baby, she has struggled with a genetic deformity of her feet. Her mother had the same issue and was able to correct it with life altering surgery. Throughout her life, she has had issues with shoes fitting correctly, and now that she's older, it has begun to affect her career. Doctor's have told her that she walks like a horse - basically walking on her tip toes because she physically cannot put her heel down on the ground.

In 2022, Melanie was finally able to have her Achilles tendon lengthened in her right foot so she could put that foot back on the ground. Over the course of 3 to 4 months, she spent her time recovering and going to physical therapy. The first 3 of which, she was unable to work at all due to the amount of pain getting used to stretching this tendon she never fully had. Friends and family helped her get through this time of pain and healing, but she was concerned with the financial burden it would bring once it became time to get her left Achilles tendon corrected.

Over the course of the following years, the state of the economy and inflation became an ever looming shadow over Melanie ever being able to walk normally on both feet. Unfortunately, things began to take a small turn for the worse - her right foot began to hurt again. After deciding the pain was too much to bear, she went to see her doctor again and found out that she has an ankle anterior impingement. This means where the tibia and talus meet, they are pinching soft tissue and sending immense amounts of pain through her foot and leg.

Upon hearing this, Melanie asked what could be done to help it and possibly prevent it from happening again in the future. The best preventative measure would be to have the Achilles tendon in her left foot lengthened so she wouldn't be putting as much weight on her right foot. It was also suggested to have a procedure done to file the bone down a little bit in the right foot to alleviate some of the pain. However, she was warned that there would always be a chance of the bone growing back and causing the issue again. Thus the other reason they recommended her to correct her left ankle as soon as she possibly could.

Now Melanie is looking to garner financial support to help her achieve her goals of being able to walk normally and finally get both her feet back on the ground. Due to current economic situations (such as inflation), and her time off from her previous surgery, has made it hard for her to keep up with the bills and her cats. Any support that can be given, even if it's just a few dollars, means the world to her. Not much can be given in reward except her eternal thanks and gratitude for those who can support her.

What to Focus On

Update posted by Melanie DeSain at 03:22 pm

Hey guys, Melanie here. Here to give an important update on my feet. According to my doctor, the best plan forward is to go ahead and do the Achilles Tendon Lengthening on my left foot. This will help balance a lot of pain and issues I've already been suffering from,. . . . .
