I am doing this fundraiser so that I can try and give my fiancé, Nekia her dream wedding.  She has always dreamed about being a bride princess and having her father walk her down the aisles.  Unfortunately, her father died unexpectedly when she was 18 so that part of her dream was taken from her.  Nekia is the proud mother of three kids that she takes care of with no help or assistance from anyone. She has a full-time job and she works about 65 hours a week.  I am also the proud father of three children and I have a full-time job.  I attend school at night full-time to obtain my degree in Information Technology.  In order to give her the best wedding I possibly can, I picked up a second job as a janitor on the weekend.

Nekia and I went to high school together in South Carolina but we rarely interacted with each other.  After graduating from high school, I joined the United States Navy and served 12 ½ years before getting injured in the Middle East and ultimately medically discharged from the military.  I went back home and stayed with my father for a few months feeling sorry for myself and trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life next since I could no longer do what I loved doing the most serving my country.  Nekia was attending college when her father got sick and passed away in 2000.  Being the oldest, Nekia left college, returned home, and helped her mom raise her siblings and is looking forward to returning.

Well, the old saying goes “everything happens for a reason” and the reason for all my misfortune has lead me to my blessing.  I bumped into Nekia at a parade and we exchanged information. We chatted for a few weeks via text and Facebook and I fell in love with her and her kids.  Having the feeling that she was “THE ONE”, I left my father’s house to get back on my feet and I was fortunate enough to find a job in Virginia working with the Navy.  I was now back doing what I loved to do but I still felt incomplete.  One Wednesday afternoon I realized that I couldn’t live my life without Nekia.  I drove 4 ½ hours after I got off work and walked in her house at 1 a.m.  I got down on my knee and asked her to be the love of my life for the rest of my life and she said YES.  Tears flowing, she got on the phone and woke her mother up to tell her the news.  By 2 a.m., I had already talk to every aunt she had across five states.

We’ve talked with a few people to setup the wedding and reception and when we left the last planner tears were flowing down her face.  The realization of not having her dream wedding was setting in.  I know I can’t come up with all the money that it takes to give the love of my life her dream wedding so I am relying on the generosity of people all over the world who would like to take part in helping me make Nekia’s dream wedding come true.
